How MBBS fees & counselling differ across states

NEET-UG is the one gate

Every MBBS seat in India — government, private, management, NRI or deemed — is allotted only on a qualifying NEET-UG score, through official counselling. No college can lawfully admit an MBBS student outside it, so treat any 'direct admission' or 'donation seat' offer as a red flag.

State counselling sets most private fees

For most private colleges the state authority both runs the counselling and notifies the fee — KEA in Karnataka, KNRUHS in Telangana, the FRA/CAP system in Maharashtra — on state domicile plus a small all-India share. The tier structure differs by state: Karnataka's four KEA tiers, Telangana's Category A/B/C, Maharashtra's single FRA fee.

Deemed universities run on MCC

Deemed-to-be universities bypass state counselling entirely. They admit through MCC's all-India deemed rounds with no domicile requirement, at institution-notified fees and a separate NRI tier. The deemed hub compares them across states on one page.

Same degree, very different fee

The MBBS degree and the NEET requirement are identical across every tier and state — what changes is the notified fee and the seat pool. Convener and government tiers are heavily subsidised; management, NRI and deemed tiers are notified far higher. Every figure on CollegeAndFees links its official source.
