Medical Colleges in Chennai 2026 — MBBS Fees, Quotas & Seats

21 medical colleges in and around Chennai admit MBBS through NEET-UG — Tamil Nadu's deepest cluster of seats. The deemed-to-be universities (Saveetha, Sri Ramachandra, SRM, Chettinad, Bharath, Dr MGR, MAHER and VISTAS) run MCC deemed counselling at their own fee; the self-financing colleges admit through the Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Committee. Campuses across the metro belt (Kattankulathur, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Thiruvallur, Maduranthagam, Melmaruvathur, Kancheepuram) are included and labelled.

The headline MBBS year-1 fee — the management/NRI tier at a self-financing college, or the institution fee at a deemed university — ranges from ₹15 L to ₹28 L across the colleges below, with government-quota seats at self-financing colleges notified far lower. Every figure links back to a sourced college page — nothing here is an estimate.

Chennai's government medical colleges — Madras Medical College, Stanley and Kilpauk — admit through the same Selection Committee's government counselling and are out of scope here. This page covers the private and deemed colleges we have sourced pages for.

On the deemed route? How medical seats & fees actually work in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu runs MBBS on two separate tracks

Deemed-to-be universities — Saveetha, Sri Ramachandra, SRM, Chettinad, Bharath (BIHER), Dr MGR, MAHER and VISTAS — admit MBBS through the Medical Counselling Committee's (MCC) all-India deemed-quota counselling, each at its own institution-notified fee. Self-financing (non-government) colleges fill their state-surrendered seats through the Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Committee, run by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), on NEET-UG merit. The degree and the NEET requirement are identical across both — only the route, the counselling body and the fee change. Each college page states the route that college actually uses.

Government, management & NRI at a self-financing college

At a Tamil Nadu self-financing college the same MBBS seat is notified under three fee tiers — government, management and NRI. The government-quota seats are surrendered to the state and allotted by the TN Selection Committee at the government-fixed (lower) fee on NEET merit; the management and NRI tiers carry higher, separately notified fees for the college's own pool. That is the Tamil Nadu quirk: a low-fee 'government' seat exists inside a private self-financing college, well below its management tier. Deemed universities have no government tier — every seat is at the institution fee, on MCC counselling.

Same brand, different campuses — check the code

Several Chennai brands run more than one MBBS college. Bharath (BIHER) is behind both Sree Balaji (Chromepet) and Bhaarat (Selaiyur, Tambaram); Dr MGR Educational & Research Institute runs Sri Lalithambigai (Maduravoyal) and ACS (Velappanchavadi). Each is a legally distinct college with its own fees, seats and counselling route. Confirm you are reading the right campus — the college page carries the NMC status, the route and the locality.

Beyond Chennai

Vellore (Christian Medical College), Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem, Tiruchirappalli and the rest of Tamil Nadu — deemed and self-financing colleges alike — are compared in full, route by route and fee tier by fee tier, on the Tamil Nadu medical colleges hub. For every state, start at the national medical colleges directory.
