NEET UG Counselling 2026: Dates, Process, Fees & Colleges
NEET UG is the single national gate for MBBS and BDS. After the 3 May 2026 paper was cancelled, NTA held a full re-examination on 21 June 2026 — so the result, and then counselling, are next. This page tracks the timeline, the MCC All India Quota + deemed process, and all 10 state counsellings, straight from the official sources. Start with our medical colleges in India hub or jump to a deemed-university seat.
NEET UG 2026 exam: cancelled paper, re-exam & result
The original NEET UG 2026 exam was conducted on 3 May 2026 but was cancelled on 12 May 2026 after a question-paper-leak controversy. NTA ordered a full re-examination, which was held on 21 June 2026 for roughly 22.8 lakh candidates across 551 cities, with no fresh application or fee and tightened security (mandatory biometric verification, GPS-tracked papers, AI-supervised CCTV). The re-test result is the basis for the entire 2026 admission cycle. For the candidate-side detail, see our NEET UG 2026 re-exam guide.
How NEET counselling works: All India Quota vs state quota
Your one NEET rank runs through two parallel tracks:
- All India Quota (MCC): the 15% AIQ of government-college seats plus 100% of deemed and central university seats (AIIMS, JIPMER, ESIC, BHU, AMU) — filled by the Medical Counselling Committee at mcc.nic.in on merit, with no domicile bar. MCC fees (2025): ₹1,000 registration + ₹10,000 refundable security for government seats; ₹5,000 + ₹2,00,000 for deemed universities.
- State quota (85%): the remaining government seats plus private, management and NRI seats — filled by each state's own authority, usually requiring state domicile. Fees and rounds differ by state (see the table below).

NEET counselling process, step by step
Qualify NEET UG 2026
Clear the category qualifying percentile (50th for General/EWS, 40th for SC/ST/OBC-NCL, 45th for PwD). NTA declares your All India Rank, percentile and the year's qualifying cut-off scores.
Register for BOTH counsellings
The 15% All India Quota + 100% of deemed/central university seats are filled by MCC (mcc.nic.in). The remaining 85% state quota + private/management/NRI seats are filled by your state authority. They are SEPARATE registrations with separate fees — most rank-holders register for both.
Document verification
Keep your NEET scorecard, Class 10 & 12 marksheets, photo ID, category/EWS certificate and a domicile/nativity certificate ready. State-quota seats need proof of domicile; AIQ and deemed seats are merit-only with no domicile bar.
Choice filling & locking
Order your preferred colleges and courses for the round, then lock before the deadline. Choices entered in Round 1 usually carry into later rounds — you can't always re-enter fresh options.
Seat allotment
Seats are allotted on NEET rank, category, your locked choices and the seat matrix. Download the provisional allotment letter when it is published.
Report, pay & decide
Report at the allotted college within the window with originals and fees. Choose to freeze, float (upgrade), or exit per the round's rules.
Round 2 → Mop-up → Stray Vacancy
Later rounds fill remaining seats. Exiting after a later-round allotment usually forfeits the refundable security deposit (₹10,000 for govt seats, ₹2,00,000 for deemed) — read the official scheme before you register.
NEET counselling documents required
Have scanned originals ready before registration opens: NEET 2026 admit card & scorecard/rank letter, Class 10 and 12 marksheets and certificates, photo ID (Aadhaar/passport), passport-size photographs, a category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL) or EWS certificate if applicable, a PwD certificate if applicable, and — for any state-quota seat — a domicile/nativity certificate. NRI seats additionally need sponsor, relationship and embassy-attested papers.
NEET counselling 2026 — FAQ
When will NEET UG 2026 counselling start?
It begins only after NTA declares the NEET UG 2026 result, which is awaited (the 3 May exam was cancelled and a re-examination was held on 21 June 2026). In a normal year MCC's All India Quota counselling and the state counsellings open within a few weeks of the result — usually July–August. We update this tracker the moment an official schedule is posted.
What is the NEET UG 2026 result date?
Not yet announced. The result/scorecard — with your All India Rank, percentile and the year's category-wise qualifying cut-off scores — will be published by NTA on neet.nta.nic.in after the 21 June 2026 re-examination. Treat any '2026 result date' on aggregator sites as unconfirmed.
How many rounds are there in NEET counselling?
MCC (All India Quota + deemed/central) typically runs four rounds — Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 (Mop-up) and a Stray Vacancy Round — with an occasional court-directed Special Stray Round. Most states mirror this with Round 1, Round 2, a Mop-up and Stray Vacancy round(s).
What is the difference between All India Quota and state quota?
Your single NEET rank feeds two tracks. The 15% All India Quota of government-college seats, plus 100% of deemed and central university seats (AIIMS, JIPMER, ESIC, BHU, AMU), are filled by MCC at mcc.nic.in on merit with no domicile requirement. The remaining 85% of government seats, plus private/management/NRI seats, are filled by each state's authority and usually require state domicile.
How do I register for NEET counselling?
Register separately for each track you want: MCC at mcc.nic.in for the All India Quota and deemed/central seats, and your state authority's portal for the 85% state quota and private seats. Pay the registration fee, complete document verification, fill and lock choices, then report at your allotted college.
What documents are required for NEET counselling?
Typically: NEET 2026 admit card and scorecard/rank letter, Class 10 and 12 marksheets and certificates, a valid photo ID (Aadhaar/passport), passport-size photographs, a category certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL) or EWS certificate if applicable, a PwD certificate if applicable, and — for state-quota seats — a domicile/nativity certificate. NRI seats additionally need sponsor/relationship and embassy-attested documents.
How much does NEET counselling cost?
MCC charges a non-refundable registration fee plus a refundable security deposit: roughly ₹1,000 + ₹10,000 for government/AIQ seats and ₹5,000 + ₹2,00,000 for deemed universities (2025 figures; 2026 awaited). State registration fees are far smaller — usually ₹500–₹2,500 — but management and NRI quotas carry higher processing fees. These are only counselling fees; college tuition is separate.
