Infrastructure & facilities

Labs, library, sports, hostels & campus facilities

Sri Chamundeshwari Medical College, Hospital & Research Institute sits on the Bengaluru — Mysuru highway (NH-275) at Dabanagunda Village, Channapatna, about an hour from Bengaluru, on a campus it shares with the Sri Ranga Educational Trust's nursing, physiotherapy, allied-health-sciences and pre-medical colleges. Its teaching hospital actually pre-dates the college — the hospital was registered in 2021, two years before the college's 2023 Letter of Permission. The NMC's current pro-forma records 605 hospital beds with a 30-bed emergency unit (the college's own pages variously say 330, 750 and 900+ beds — recorded as a conflict), with ICCU, MICU, NICU, PICU, OBG-ICU and an emergency ICU, a licensed blood bank, 24x7 casualty and ambulances. In its first NMC clinical-load return the hospital reported about 2,67,737 outpatient visits and 13,400 admissions in the year, with 3,671 major and 6,864 minor surgeries. Academic facilities include an air-conditioned central library with RFID self-issue (375 titles, 32 journals and 3,263 bound periodical volumes — a young, growing collection), a clinical skills lab, smart classrooms and the ACS Auditorium, separate on-campus boys' and girls' hostels with resident wardens, a gym, swimming pool, sports grounds, campus Wi-Fi and a college bus fleet.

Research & rankings

Centres, patents, grants & MoU partners

Sri Chamundeshwari Medical College is one of Karnataka's newest medical colleges (Letter of Permission March 2023) and is building its academic base quickly: the NMC's 2024 faculty pro-forma recorded a teaching faculty of 196 regular members across 20 teaching departments, and the college's monthly-published teaching faculty list had grown to 311 entries by June 2026. It runs an Institutional Ethics Committee (chaired by Dr. Basavaraj Bhandare with a 12-member board including a legal expert and lay member), a Research Committee, a Central Research Lab, a Medical Education Unit, and pharmacovigilance and materiovigilance committees. Both admitted MBBS batches so far filled all 150 seats, and the RGUHS Syndicate has already cleared (on the university's side) the college's application to expand from 150 to 250 MBBS seats — an increase the NMC has not yet granted.

No. There is no direct admission. All MBBS seats — government, private, management, NRI and the Tamil-minority quota — are filled strictly on NEET-UG merit through KEA (Karnataka Examinations Authority) counselling and, for the 15% All-India Quota, through MCC. Be wary of any agent or website promising a guaranteed or direct seat.

For the government/state-quota MBBS seats allotted by KEA in CET-2024 Round 2, the General Merit (GM) seat closed at NEET rank 74,828; category closings were 1G 90,948, 2A 93,259, 2B 83,150, 3A 74,854, 3B 77,294, SC 2,17,551 and ST 2,00,622. Management and NRI seats have no separate rank cut-off.
Is Sri Chamundeshwari Medical College recognised by the NMC?
It is PERMITTED, not yet recognised — an important distinction for a new college. The NMC issued its Letter of Permission on 27 March 2023 for 150 MBBS seats and has renewed permission for AY 2024-25 and AY 2025-26. Per the LOP itself, MBBS recognition will be considered when the first batch (admitted 2023-24) appears for its final examinations, around 2027-28 — the standard path for every new Indian medical college. The college is RGUHS-affiliated, and as a new institution it has no NAAC accreditation record yet.
How many MBBS and PG seats does Sri Chamundeshwari Medical College have?
150 MBBS seats (each batch so far — 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26 — was permitted for 150, and the admitted lists show all 150 filled). The NMC newly granted 15 MD/MS disciplines totalling 51 seats for AY 2025-26 (largest: Paediatrics, Anaesthesiology, Biochemistry, Community Medicine, Microbiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology and Orthopaedics at 4 each). Note: the RGUHS affiliation notification for 2025-26 lists MBBS only and the college website does not yet advertise PG courses — the PG seats exist in the NMC grant and KEA's PG fee table. The college has also applied to expand MBBS from 150 to 250 seats; RGUHS's Syndicate cleared its side, but the NMC has not granted the increase.
What is the Tamil linguistic minority quota at Sri Chamundeshwari Medical College?
The college discloses that it is a Tamil Linguistic Minority institution (KEA's fee table marks it Minority (L,R)), so a portion of seats is reserved for Tamil-linguistic-minority candidates. Per the college's FAQ, eligible candidates must have studied in Karnataka for ten years (1st standard up to the qualifying examination) and passed SSLC/2nd PUC in Karnataka; KEA conducts the counselling for these seats on NEET merit.
What is the eligibility for MBBS admission at Sri Chamundeshwari Medical College?
Candidates must pass 10+2 / PUC with English and at least 50 percent aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (40 percent for SC/ST/Cat-1/2A/2B/3A/3B), be 17 years old by 31 December of the admission year, and qualify NEET-UG. Selection is on NEET merit through KEA/MCC counselling.

What are the hostel fees at Sri Chamundeshwari Medical College?
Unusually for the region, the college publishes its hostel charges in its official fee disclosure: hostel Rs 1,40,000 per year plus mess Rs 60,000 per year (2024-25 batch, all admission categories) — about Rs 2 lakh a year for boarding — alongside a Rs 30,000 skill-lab fee and Rs 15,000 miscellaneous charge. Separate on-campus hostels for boys and girls have resident wardens; capacity is not published.
Is Sri Chamundeshwari Medical College safe — are there anti-ragging and harassment committees?

Ragging is a punishable offence, and students are additionally protected by the UGC anti-ragging regulations and the official UGC anti-ragging portal (antiragging.in).
