## Founding & Identity

M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology was founded on 4 August 1962 by Dr. M.S. Ramaiah, the industrialist-philanthropist whose family still runs the parent Gokula Education Foundation (GEF). The first principal Prof. C.R. Ramachandran started the institute with two branches — Electrical and Mechanical Engineering — and intakes of 60 students each. ECE was added in 1975, Industrial & Production Engineering (now IEM) in 1979, CSE in 1984, Architecture in 1992, MCA in 1997, MBA in 1998. ISO 9001 certification came in 2000 and has been renewed four times (2003, 2007, 2010). NBA accredited the major UG programmes in February 2001. In 2007 VTU and UGC jointly granted autonomous status for both UG and PG programmes, effective AY 2007-08 — a status the institute has held continuously since.

The institute sits on roughly 25 acres within the 85-acre GEF education complex at MSR Nagar, Mathikere, Bangalore-560054. Its ~35,000-strong alumni network runs deep through Bangalore''s IT, semiconductor and aerospace ecosystem. The current Principal Dr. N.V.R. Naidu has held the top post since June 2014 — he joined MSRIT as a Lecturer in 1982, making him a 36-year institutional veteran. The Chief Academic Advisor Dr. Karisiddappa was Vice Chancellor of VTU Belagavi from 26-September-2016 to 30-September-2022.

MSRIT''s third-party credentials reinforce its Tier-A claim:

- NAAC: A+ grade with CGPA 3.28 in Cycle 2 (assessed 1 March 2021, valid till 28 February 2026; ref EC(SC)/60/2nd Cycle/KACOGN19785). The latest AQAR on record is 2023-24. - NIRF 2025: Engineering Rank 75 (independently verified on nirfindia.org). Architecture programme ranked 31. The MSRIT site shows 75 / 78 inconsistencies on internal pages — the homepage value 75 is authoritative. - NBA: All major UG programmes accredited since February 2001; EEE on a current 6-year cycle. - TEQIP-II: ₹5 crore grant under sub-component 1.2 (PG Education & Research) — one of 9 Karnataka institutions selected.

## Why MSRIT vs Other VTU-Affiliated Engineering Colleges

The institute''s distinctive moats are not its fees — Karnataka KCET tuition is uniform statewide — but its research-and-industry density. MSRIT operates ten formal Centres of Excellence plus the KBITS-funded BiSEP biotech skill programme, several of them industry-named:

- CAMT (Centre for Advanced Materials Technology) — Boeing-funded; led by Mech HoD Dr. K.R.V. Subramanian (Cambridge PhD 2006); 12 named faculty across Mech/Chem/Physics/Chemistry/Biotech. - CCPS (Centre for Cyber Physical Systems) — NVIDIA DGX Station with 4× Titan-X GPUs and 512 GB RAM, plus Bosch IISc and Li2 Technologies as partners; 20× Jetson Nano boards for student projects. - CIT (Centre for Imaging Technologies) — Samsung Prism + IGCAR Kalpakkam + Ramaiah Medical College + Manipal Hospitals; FLIR T650SC thermal imager (20 mK), spectral-domain OCT at 840 nm, 3× RTX 4000 GPU workstations. - CARFS (Antennas & RF Systems) — ₹40L VGST KFIST-L2 grant + ₹10L AICTE MODROBS; 2 published Indian patents; 22 publications; 19 consultancies. - CBEM! (est. 2022) — ₹41.84L DST-SERB CRG + ₹54.30L SPARC-MHRD + ₹30L VGST KFIST L2 + ₹36.28L EMPRI Karnataka. - Apple AATCE — Apple India-authorised training centre with 30 iMacs and Xcode 13. - Schneider CoE, NI LabVIEW Academy, TI C2000 Electric Drives, Simulation Lab (Samsung Prism) — round out the industry partner roster.

This Centre-of-Excellence portfolio matters for two cohorts in particular: students aiming for internship-led recruiter pipelines (Boeing/NVIDIA/Apple/Samsung/Schneider have on-campus footprints) and those wanting research-track admission to the institute''s PhD programme. MSRIT pays a Full-Time PhD Fellowship of ₹25,000 per month for 3 years (from AY 2021-22 onwards) across seven faculties — a quantum competitive with most IITs'' JRF rates.

The placement headline for the latest cycle stands at 358 companies visited, 1,892 offers, 50 LPA highest, 7.66 LPA average, 95% placement rate. The MCA programme is the first-in-India NBA Tier-I-accredited MCA, which differentiates it from generic VTU MCA offerings. ECE is NBA-accredited four times for 3-year periods plus one PG accreditation. EEE has been NBA-accredited continuously since 2001 and runs the National MEMS Design Centre (NPMASS-supported), Schneider Building Automation lab, and the NI LabVIEW Academy.

For families weighing a KCET vs COMEDK seat choice, MSRIT''s NIRF-75 rank places it firmly above the median for VTU-affiliated colleges (median rank-band typically 100-200) but below the top trio of RVCE/BMSCE/PESU. Tuition under KCET is the Karnataka state-wide ₹76,135 per year, regardless of branch. COMEDK and Management quota fees are college-specific and not on the public hub pages — verify them with the MSRIT Admissions Office at admn@msrit.edu or 080-23607902, citing the KEA fee notification and the COMEDK 2026 information brochure (KUPECA-supervised). For Mgmt quota deposits the Karnataka Universities & Professional Educational Colleges Act (KUPECA) caps & disclosure provisions apply — get the latest signed fee schedule on letterhead before transferring.

Why Choose MSRIT?

**By Sakshi Sonal** MSRIT earns its place on a Bangalore-engineering shortlist for three reasons: a **dense industry-funded research portfolio** (10 CoEs with Boeing/NVIDIA/Apple/Samsung/Schneider partnerships), a **stable Tier-A NIRF rank** (75 in 2025, verified on [nirfindia.org](https://www.nirfindia.org/Rankings/2025/EngineeringRanking.html)), and a **PhD ecosystem** that pays full-time scholars ₹25,000/month from year one. KUPECA-supervised Management seats are available for 2026-27. If your priority is **KCET-route affordability**, MSRIT''s tuition is the same ₹76,135 per year as every other Karnataka private engineering college — branch choice will not change that headline. The deciding factor is whether you get a CSE / AI-ML / ECE seat within the merit cut-off (typically rank under 6,000 for CSE). If your priority is **research / PhD trajectory**, MSRIT''s CBEM! (₹41.84L SERB + ₹54.30L SPARC), CARFS (₹40L VGST + 2 patents), CAMT (Boeing-funded), and the ₹25,000/month full-time PhD fellowship across 7 faculties are competitive with most NITs and several IIITs. If your priority is **placement scale**, the 358-company / 1,892-offer / 95% headline (per [msrit.edu/placement.html](https://www.msrit.edu/placement.html)) is among the strongest under VTU. Top recruiters include NVIDIA, SAP, IBM, Bosch, Samsung, Boeing, Schneider, HP, Apple, TI, NI, Honeywell, BEL, JSW Steel, Wipro, Infosys and TCS. If your priority is **proximity-and-network**, the institute''s 35,000-alumni base in Bangalore, IISc-adjacent campus, and family-trust governance (Gokula Education Foundation) are unmatched in the city for a mid-tier private institute. ## Compare MSRIT With Similar Colleges | Comparison | Page | What you''ll learn | |---|---|---| | **MSRIT vs RVCE** | [/colleges/rv-college-of-engineering](https://collegeandfees.com/colleges/rv-college-of-engineering) | Fee deltas, NIRF rank gap (RVCE typically higher-ranked), placement medians, hostel cost | | **MSRIT vs BMSCE** | [/colleges/bms-college-of-engineering](https://collegeandfees.com/colleges/bms-college-of-engineering) | Both NAAC A+; BMSCE older (1946); branch-by-branch intake & management-quota fee deltas | | **MSRIT vs PES University** | [/colleges/pes-university](https://collegeandfees.com/colleges/pes-university) | Deemed University vs VTU-Autonomous; PESSAT direct vs KCET/COMEDK; fee gap | | **MSRIT vs Christ University** | [/colleges/christ-university](https://collegeandfees.com/colleges/christ-university) | Deemed vs autonomous; Christ''s CUET-CET vs MSRIT''s KCET; placement profile differences | | **MSRIT vs NHCE** | [/colleges/new-horizon-college-of-engineering](https://collegeandfees.com/colleges/new-horizon-college-of-engineering) | NAAC A vs A+; NIRF rank gap; intake difference; recruiter overlap |

Admission to MSRIT — How it Works

**By Sakshi Sonal** For 2026-27 UG admissions, MSRIT accepts students through five primary routes: **KCET**, **COMEDK UGET**, **JEE Main** (limited), **Management quota direct**, and **NRI/PIO/FN quota**. UG admissions are currently OPEN; contact admn@msrit.edu / 080-23607902 or visit [msrit.edu/admissions.html](https://www.msrit.edu/admissions.html). ### Step-by-step KCET route 1. Register for KCET 2026 at [cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea](https://cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea/) — typical window January-February with exam in April-May. 2. After result, register for KEA centralised counselling and document verification. 3. Mock allotment → option entry → seat allotment → fee payment → MSRIT physical reporting with originals. 4.
