JIT was established in 2011 by Late Dr. B.N.V. Subrahmanya in memory of his late daughter Jyothy. The institute is run by Jyothy Charitable Trust, which has since been bequeathed to Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri. It is a private self-financing engineering college affiliated to VTU Belagavi and approved by AICTE.
