BITSAT (BITS Admission Test) is the sole admission gateway to BITS Pilani campuses — Pilani, Hyderabad, and Goa — for B.E., B.Pharm, M.Sc, and integrated programmes. JEE Main and JEE Advanced scores are NOT accepted at BITS. Approximately 2,000 B.E. seats fill via BITSAT each year.
Application and Eligibility - Pass 12th with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) or PCB - Minimum 75% aggregate in PCM (PCM average + English subject) — strict cutoff - Apply between January and April 2026 (form fee ~₹3,500) - Two BITSAT attempts allowed in a single year — score from the better of the two attempts is used
Exam Pattern - Computer-based test (CBT) - 130 questions across Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, Logical Reasoning - Difficulty level: between JEE Main and JEE Advanced — heavy on speed and accuracy - Negative marking applies (-1 for incorrect, +3 for correct) - 3-hour duration - Conducted between mid-May and mid-June at test centres across India
Score Validity and Counselling BITS conducts its own iteration-based counselling separate from JoSAA. Approximately 6-8 iterations of choice updating, allotment, and acceptance — purely software-driven, no physical counselling.
Cutoff Scores 2024 (For Reference) - BITS Pilani CSE: 320+ (out of 390) - BITS Pilani ECE: 290+ - BITS Pilani Mechanical: 250+ - BITS Hyderabad CSE: 280+ - BITS Goa CSE: 270+ - All branches: minimum 230 typically required
These cutoffs are SCORE-based, not rank-based — different system from JEE.
Fees and Programmes BITS Pilani B.E. tuition: ~₹5.5L per year (~₹22L total tuition for 4 years). Hostel + mess: ~₹1.5L per year. Total 4-year cost: ~₹27L.
This is significantly higher than IIT/NIT (~₹15L total) but lower than top private universities like SRM, Manipal, VIT (~₹24-30L total).

BITSAT vs JEE Strategy BITS Pilani CSE = top 800 BITSAT score range. This is roughly equivalent to top-15 NIT CSE or top-10 IIT (newer) CSE. So if you're targeting CSE at BITS Pilani, you should also be writing JEE seriously — BITSAT alone might not yield BITS Pilani CSE if competition is particularly stiff.
For BITS Hyderabad or Goa, slightly lower BITSAT scores (~250-270) are sufficient — these are excellent backup options to top NITs.
Tip BITSAT's English and Logical Reasoning sections are differentiators. Strong PCM scores alone may not get you into BITS Pilani CSE if your English/LR is weak. Mock test once a week from January 2026 onwards is the highest-leverage prep activity.
