FAQ

UVCE FAQs

When was UVCE Bangalore established and by whom?
UVCE Bangalore was established in 1917 by Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, then Diwan of Mysore, as the Government Engineering College during the reign of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. It was renamed University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering in 1971 and is Karnataka first and one of the five oldest engineering colleges in India.
Is UVCE Bangalore affiliated to Bangalore University or autonomous?
Since the University of Visvesvaraya College of Engineering Act, 2022 (Karnataka Act No. 9 of 2022), UVCE is no longer a constituent of Bangalore University. It operates for 2025-26 as a fully autonomous unitary State Public University modelled on IIT lines, with its own Board of Governors, statutes and degree-awarding authority. It is AICTE approved and declared an Institution of State Eminence.
Where is UVCE Bangalore located and how large are its campuses?
UVCE has two campuses in Bengaluru. The heritage City Campus of roughly 10 to 15 acres is at K.R. Circle, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Veedhi, Bengaluru 560001, next to Vidhana Soudha and Cubbon Park. The Jnana Bharathi satellite campus of around 50 acres sits within the larger Bangalore University JB campus and houses the Civil Engineering and Architecture departments.
What is the NAAC grade and NBA status of UVCE Bangalore?
For NBA, UVCE official 2022 seat-matrix evidence listed programme-level NBA status as No for the checked programmes; verify current programme-wise NBA status before counselling.
What B.E. branches does UVCE Bangalore offer in 2025-26?
For 2025-26 UVCE offers eight B.E. programmes - Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, CSE Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, CSE Data Science, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information Science and Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering - alongside a B.Arch programme at Jnana Bharathi. Total B.E. sanctioned intake ranges between roughly 740 and 1,040 seats across branches.
What is the UVCE B.E. fee for 2026-27?
UVCE's 2026-27 B.E. KCET general-category total first-year payable is Rs 56,500 across branches under the KEA UGCET engineering fee schedule. The KEA table includes the notified other-fee and university-fee components in this total; SNQ, SC/ST and Category-1 concessions follow the same official fee table.
What is the admission process for B.E. at UVCE Bangalore?
B.E. admission at UVCE is a merit-based government-quota process routed entirely through Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) counselling. The primary route is the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) which carries close to 100 percent of the B.E. seats. Additional Supernumerary seats are admitted under Government of India and MHRD schemes. Lateral entry to the B.E. second year is through Karnataka Diploma CET. UVCE does not advertise a management quota.
What were the 2024-25 placement highlights at UVCE Bangalore?
Tech students, with 776-plus offers from 254-plus recruiters and an institute-reported placement rate of 84 to 86 percent. Key recruiters include Oracle, IBM, Adobe, Toyota, Cisco, SAP Labs, Mercedes-Benz R&D, Bosch, Wipro, Volvo, Dell, LinkedIn and Huawei.
Who are the notable alumni of UVCE Bangalore?
UVCE alumni include Padma Vibhushan awardees Dr M.R. Srinivasan (former AEC Chairman), Dr Roddam Narasimha (aerospace scientist) and Dr V.K. Aatre (former DRDO chief), along with industry leaders such as Balu Balakrishnan (Power Integrations CEO) and B.V. Jagadeesh. Sir M. Visvesvaraya himself is revered as the founder-patron rather than a student alumnus. Sundar Pichai is an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, not UVCE.
