UVCE - University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering — Fees, Placements & Admission 2026

UVCE Bangalore was established in 1917 by Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, then Diwan of Mysore, as the Government Engineering College during the reign of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. It was renamed University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering in 1971 and is Karnataka first and one of the five oldest engineering colleges in India.

Since the University of Visvesvaraya College of Engineering Act, 2022 (Karnataka Act No. 9 of 2022), UVCE is no longer a constituent of Bangalore University. It operates for 2025-26 as a fully autonomous unitary State Public University modelled on IIT lines, with its own Board of Governors, statutes and degree-awarding authority. It is AICTE approved and declared an Institution of State Eminence.

UVCE has two campuses in Bengaluru. The heritage City Campus of roughly 10 to 15 acres is at K.R. Circle, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Veedhi, Bengaluru 560001, next to Vidhana Soudha and Cubbon Park. The Jnana Bharathi satellite campus of around 50 acres sits within the larger Bangalore University JB campus and houses the Civil Engineering and Architecture departments.

UVCE is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an A-category grade as published in the institute NIRF submissions, and its core B.E. programmes in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication, and Computer Science have historically held NBA accreditation alongside AICTE approval.

For 2025-26 UVCE offers eight B.E. programmes - Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, CSE Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, CSE Data Science, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information Science and Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering - alongside a B.Arch programme at Jnana Bharathi. Total B.E. sanctioned intake ranges between roughly 740 and 1,040 seats across branches.

For 2025-26, UVCE charges a Karnataka Government regulated B.E. tuition of Rs 44,311 per year across all branches for KCET-allotted seats, with examination and other funds adding to a total first-year payable of around Rs 48,250 to Rs 49,600. SC, ST and Cat-1 candidates with family income below Rs 2.5 lakh receive significant fee waivers as notified by the State Government.

B.E. admission at UVCE is a merit-based government-quota process routed entirely through Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) counselling. The primary route is the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) which carries close to 100 percent of the B.E. seats. Additional Supernumerary seats are admitted under Government of India and MHRD schemes. Lateral entry to the B.E. second year is through Karnataka Diploma CET. UVCE does not advertise a management quota.

UVCE files complete data for the Ministry of Education National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings each year and features as a participating institute in the Engineering category. Third-party summaries of the 2024 edition commonly place it within the 101-150 rank band, while the official NIRF portal lists UVCE among the category-Engineering participating institutions.
