Overview
NIT Warangal (NITW) and NIT Calicut (NITC) are both established NITs from the original Regional Engineering College (REC) era. NITW traces back to REC Warangal (1959), NITC to REC Calicut (1961). NITW sits on 248 acres in Warangal, Telangana; NITC on a 300-acre campus in Calicut, Kerala. Both admit via JEE Main with similar cutoffs and strong industry recruiter networks.
Academics
NITW runs CSE, EE, ECE, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Metallurgical, Mining, Bio-Technology and Engineering Physics branches. NITC runs similar branches with stronger Architecture, Production and Industrial Engineering programmes plus the Centre for Excellence in Sustainable Construction. NITW has Centre for Sustainable Manufacturing; NITC has Centre for Materials Engineering.
Campus Life
NITW has hot dry summer climate, Spring Spree/Technozion fests, proximity to Hyderabad HITEC City (~3 hours by road) for internships. NITC has tropical-coastal weather with monsoon rains (June-September). Strong sports culture, Tathva/Ragam fests, proximity to Calicut International Airport.
Verdict
NIT Warangal is the better choice for Telangana/AP domicile students or those wanting easier Hyderabad IT corridor access for internships. NIT Calicut is the better choice for Kerala domicile students or those preferring coastal Kerala academic culture. Both deliver near-identical engineering quality.
