NIT Warangal — Fees, Placements & Admission 2026

NIT Warangal charges the MoE-standard NIT tuition of approximately Rs 62,500 per semester (Rs 1,25,000 per academic year) plus recurring institute fees taking the total to approximately Rs 1,50,000 per year for B.Tech programmes in the General, OBC-NCL and EWS categories. This figure is reviewed by the NIT Council and may be revised by an MoE notification before each academic year. SC, ST and PwD candidates receive a full tuition waiver. Students whose annual family income is below Rs 1 lakh receive a full tuition waiver, and those with family income between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh receive a two-thirds tuition waiver under the central NIT remission scheme.

In addition to tuition, students pay hostel and mess charges of approximately Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 per academic year covering accommodation in the on-campus residential complex, mess dining, electricity, water and maintenance. One-time admission fees including institute deposit, identity card and registration add approximately Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 in the first semester. Medical insurance, student activity fee, examination fee and laboratory-consumables contribute a smaller recurring component. Books, stationery and personal expenses typically add Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 per year. Total first-year cost of attendance usually sits in the Rs 2.2 lakh to Rs 2.7 lakh range for General-category students.

NIT Warangal offers the full central NIT fee-remission scheme: SC, ST and PwD candidates receive a full tuition waiver; General, OBC-NCL and EWS students with family income below Rs 1 lakh receive a full tuition waiver; and those with family income between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh receive a two-thirds tuition waiver. Merit-cum-Means (MCM) scholarships, Institute Merit scholarships, and external scholarships from the National Scholarship Portal, Telangana state government and CSR partners further support eligible students. PhD scholars receive MoE-standard monthly fellowships; M.Tech students sponsored via GATE receive MHRD assistantships with stipends.

B.Tech admission at NIT Warangal is exclusively through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main score and the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling, shared with all 31 NITs, the IIITs and CFTIs. Candidates must appear for JEE Main (conducted by NTA in two sessions each year), then register for JoSAA counselling and fill in institute-branch preferences. Seats are allocated on the basis of JEE Main All India Rank, branch preference, category, gender and home-state status (home-state Telangana candidates receive preference for 50% of the seats under the Home State quota of NITs). Any vacant seats after JoSAA are filled through CSAB special rounds. There is no separate institute-level application.

Candidates must have passed Class XII (or an equivalent qualifying examination) with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or Computer Science. They must have secured either a minimum aggregate of 75% in Class XII (65% for SC, ST and PwD) or be placed within the top 20 percentile of their respective Class XII board. Candidates must appear for JEE Main. Age and number-of-attempt restrictions set by NTA and JoSAA apply. Indian citizenship is required for regular seats; NRI/foreign nationals apply through the DASA scheme. Final admission is subject to JoSAA/CSAB seat allotment and document verification.

NIT Warangal is an Institute of National Importance, founded in 1959 as the Regional Engineering College (REC) Warangal — the first of the seventeen original Regional Engineering Colleges set up by the Government of India under a joint Centre-State funding model. The foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who formally inaugurated the institute on 18 October 1959. REC Warangal was upgraded to NIT Warangal in 2002, and was declared an Institute of National Importance under the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007. NIT Warangal is widely regarded as the premier NIT alongside NIT Tiruchirappalli, and is accredited NAAC A++.

NIT Warangal is located at NH-163, Kazipet, Hanamkonda, Warangal, Telangana 506004, approximately 145 km from Hyderabad. The fully residential campus spans approximately 250 acres of green, self-contained academic and residential infrastructure, including dedicated academic blocks for each department, extensive teaching and research laboratories, a central library with more than two lakh volumes, student hostels, faculty and staff residences, a comprehensive sports complex, medical centre and a dedicated technology business incubator. Warangal is well-connected by rail (Kazipet is a major rail junction) and road (NH-163 and NH-563), and Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is approximately 155 km away.

NIT Warangal offers B.Tech programmes in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, and Biotechnology. UG intake across all branches is approximately 900 seats. Postgraduate programmes include M.Tech across all departments, M.Sc in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Analytics, an MBA from the School of Management, and PhD research programmes across all departments. The curriculum follows a credit-based structure with strong emphasis on laboratory practicals, projects and industrial internships, and is reviewed periodically by the Senate and Board of Governors.
