IIT Gandhinagar (established 2008) and IIT Mandi (established 2009) are both second-generation IITs with very different geographic settings. IIT Gandhinagar in Gujarat; IIT Mandi at 1,070m elevation in Himachal Himalayas.
Academics
IIT Gandhinagar offers 9+ disciplines with unique Cognitive Sciences programme. IIT Mandi offers 10+ disciplines with strong Bioengineering and Indian Knowledge Systems.
Both colleges offer 4-year B.Tech programmes across CSE, ECE, EE, ME, and Civil with branch-specific specialisations. IIT Gandhinagar is Government with NAAC Institute of National Importance accreditation. IIT Mandi is Government with NAAC Institute of National Importance accreditation. Both follow AICTE-approved curriculum with industry-aligned electives, project-based learning, and credit-transfer options. CSE remains the most competitive branch at both, with ECE/IT close behind. IIT Gandhinagar Palaj campus has moderate Gujarat weather and proximity to GIFT City. IIT Mandi Kamand Valley campus has cold winters with snow possible and unique Himalayan research environment.

IIT Gandhinagar is the better choice for students interested in Cognitive Sciences, liberal-arts integration, or Gujarat industrial cluster proximity. IIT Mandi for Himalayan research environment, Renewable Energy and cooler academic environment.
