IIT Delhi and IIT Madras are two of India top three engineering institutes. IIT Madras has held NIRF Engineering rank 1 for nine consecutive years (2016-2024); IIT Delhi holds NIRF Engineering rank 2. Both admit B.Tech students through JEE Advanced via JoSAA central counselling.

IIT Delhi sanctioned intake is approximately 1,200 across CSE, EE, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Textile and Mathematics-and-Computing. IIT Madras intake is approximately 1,150 across CSE, EE, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Ocean, Aerospace and Naval Architecture.

IIT Delhi 2024 placement: highest 4.5 crore, average around 22 LPA, CSE around 33 LPA. IIT Madras 2024 placement: highest 4.3 crore, average around 21.5 LPA, CSE around 33-35 LPA.

Campus Life
IIT Delhi spans 320 acres in Hauz Khas, south Delhi. IIT Madras spans 617 acres in Adyar, south Chennai with significant wildlife on premises.
Verdict
IIT Madras leads on NIRF and research output; IIT Delhi has the policy-track positional advantage. CSE placements are roughly equivalent. JEE Advanced AIR within 200 typically opens both.
