Overview
BMS College of Engineering (BMSCE, established 1946) and Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS, established 2013) represent two distinct paths in Bangalore private engineering. BMSCE is the oldest private engineering college in Karnataka with NAAC A++ and private-aided status; RUAS is a young deemed-university applied-sciences institution under the Gokula Education Foundation umbrella. The two have different fee structures, branch portfolios and campus cultures.
Academics
BMSCE runs 14+ traditional VTU-autonomous B.E. branches with strong CSE, ECE, EEE, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering depth. RUAS is built around applied engineering with focused programmes in Aeronautical, Automotive, Industrial, AI/ML, Pharmaceutical and Mechatronics — its applied-sciences positioning makes it distinct from traditional engineering colleges.
Placements
BMSCE 2024 placements: highest ₹51.5 LPA, average ₹11.4 LPA, 65% placement rate. RUAS 2024 placements: highest ~₹52 LPA, average ₹6.5 LPA, 75% placement rate. BMSCE has higher peak and average; RUAS has higher rate. Both attract Microsoft, Cisco, IBM, TCS, Infosys; RUAS uniquely sees automotive and aerospace recruiters.
Fees
BMSCE KCET fees ~₹65,000-85,000/year (private-aided advantage); COMEDK ~₹2,40,000/year; Management Quota CSE ₹15L Year-1 (₹60L total). RUAS KCET fees ~₹1,30,000/year; deemed tuition ~₹2,80,000/year; Management Quota CSE ₹6L Year-1 (₹24L total). BMSCE wins on KCET-quota savings; RUAS wins on management quota for non-CSE branches.
Campus Life
BMSCE has compact 11.75-acre Basavanagudi campus with strong heritage culture. RUAS has 70-acre Peenya campus with applied-engineering labs and proximity to industrial belt. BMSCE for central location + heritage; RUAS for industry-applied learning + Peenya manufacturing cluster proximity.
Verdict
BMSCE is the better choice for KCET-quota students seeking traditional engineering at private-aided fees. RUAS is the better choice for students wanting Aeronautical, Automotive or Pharmaceutical Engineering with industry-applied curriculum. The branch portfolio differs significantly.
