FAQ

SIET Tumkur FAQs

When was SIET Tumkur established and who runs it?
Shridevi Institute of Engineering and Technology (SIET) was established in 2002 in Tumakuru city of Karnataka. The college is run by Sri Shridevi Charitable Trust (R.), Tumakuru, which was founded in 1992 by Dr. M. R. Hulinaykar — a noted surgeon, academician and educationalist who continues to serve as Chairman and Managing Trustee. SIET sits within a larger Shridevi ecosystem that operates more than a dozen institutions spanning engineering, medicine, pharmacy, paramedical sciences, nursing, management, degree and PU colleges and schools, as well as the 200-bed Shridevi Hospital and Diagnostic Centre in Tumakuru.
Where is SIET Tumkur located and how is the campus connected?
SIET is located at Sira Road, NH-4 (now renumbered NH-48), Tumakuru 572106, Karnataka — within Tumakuru city limits on the Bangalore-Pune national highway. Tumakuru is a well-established industrial and academic district headquarters roughly 70 kilometres north-west of Bengaluru, with strong road and rail connectivity to Bengaluru, Sira, Hiriyur, Chitradurga and the wider central-Karnataka belt. The campus houses all academic and residential facilities in a single integrated precinct on Sira Road, with easy access to the Tumakuru bus stand and railway station.
Is SIET Tumkur affiliated to VTU and what accreditations does it hold?
Yes. SIET Tumkur is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, and recognised by the Department of Technical Education (DTE), Government of Karnataka, Bengaluru.
What undergraduate programmes are offered at SIET?
SIET offers nine undergraduate B.E./B.Tech specialisations under the VTU CBCS framework, built around Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Information Science and Engineering (ISE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and related emerging streams. The exact list of active specialisations in any given year is published on the official website shrideviengineering.org during the annual admission cycle. Lateral-entry diploma holders can also join the second year of B.E. through Karnataka DCET.
What postgraduate and research programmes are available at SIET?
At the postgraduate level SIET offers five M.Tech / M.E. specialisations under the Visvesvaraya Technological University postgraduate framework alongside a Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme, giving engineering graduates a choice between advanced technical specialisation and a structured management trajectory. SIET is also a VTU-recognised research centre with PhD programmes reported across Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Chemistry — reflecting SIET's broader interdisciplinary research ambitions.
How are B.E. admissions to SIET conducted?
B.E. admissions at SIET Tumkur are conducted under the Karnataka state framework. The principal routes are KCET (Karnataka CET) counselling administered by the Karnataka Examinations Authority and COMEDK UGET for merit-based private-quota seats. Additional seats are filled through management and minority-quota channels administered directly by Sri Shridevi Charitable Trust (R.). JEE (Main) scores are accepted where applicable for All-India candidates, and lateral-entry diploma holders are admitted to the second year through Karnataka Diploma CET (DCET).
What are the eligibility requirements for B.E. admission?
Candidates seeking direct entry into the first year of B.E. must have passed the Karnataka 10+2 PUC-II examination or an equivalent qualifying examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science or Electronics as the third science subject. The minimum aggregate required is 45% across the three subjects (40% for SC, ST and Category-I reserved categories in Karnataka), and candidates must additionally qualify through KCET, COMEDK UGET or JEE (Main) as per the chosen counselling track.
What campus and hostel facilities does SIET offer?
The SIET campus offers VTU-aligned departmental laboratories across engineering disciplines, a central library with reference and digital resources, a central computing and IT facility, auditorium, seminar halls, conference hall and a dedicated Innovation and Incubation Cell supporting student entrepreneurship. Separate hostels are provided for boys and girls with hygienic mess services, 24x7 water and electricity supply, cafeteria, transport fleet, medical services and security. On-campus medical support is further strengthened by proximity to the Trust-run 200-bed Shridevi Hospital.
