Mangalore Marine College and Technology — Fees, Management Quota, Cutoffs, Placements 2026

Mangalore Marine College and Technology (MMCT) is Karnataka's only Directorate General of Shipping approved Maritime Training Institute, operating under DG Shipping MTI Code 402013. It was founded in 2010 as a unit of the CMC Group of Institutions Coimbatore (the 2012 date on some footers refers to AICTE/VTU approval, not the operational founding). The institute is located at Padil Padavu, Kelinjar Village, Kuppepadavu Post, Mangalore - 574144 in Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka, on a ten-acre purpose-built coastal campus. MMCT was formally relaunched as MMCT 2.0 on 13 November 2025 by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal.

The parent organisation is the CMC Group of Institutions, Coimbatore, founded in 2001 by Chief Engineer Shri S. Irudayanath Nathan, who continues as the founder-chairman. The group also operates Coimbatore Marine College, CMC Maritime Academy (Chennai, Mumbai, Kochi) and Sunav Maritime Academy Tuticorin. MMCT is one of the group's flagship maritime units. Post MMCT 2.0 (November 2025), admissions no longer run through KCET or COMEDK counselling. The process has four stages: (1) online application with scanned academic and identity documents, (2) written aptitude screening covering quantitative, verbal, logical reasoning and basic maritime awareness, (3) MSC Crewing Services sponsorship interview assessing communication, safety attitude and career-fit, and (4) DG Shipping approved medical fitness test. Direct spot admission is available for GME and GP Rating through batch-wise campus walk-ins for residual seats.

MMCT currently offers four DG Shipping approved programmes: Graduate Marine Engineering (GME, 1 year) for BE/BTech Mechanical, Marine, Naval Architecture or Automobile graduates with 50 percent minimum aggregate; Electro-Technical Officer (ETO, 4 months) for BE Electrical, Electronics or Instrumentation graduates; General Purpose Rating (GP Rating, 6 months) for Class 10 pass candidates with Science and Maths at 40 percent aggregate and age between 17.5 and 25; and Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS, 1 year) for candidates with PCM 60 percent in Class 12 and English 50 percent, currently awaiting IMU affiliation. The earlier BE Marine/Mechanical/CSE programmes listed on aggregators are not on the current official portal.

MMCT holds DG Shipping approval under MTI Code 402013 (listed on https://www.dgshipping.gov.in approved training institutes register). The institute was granted AICTE approval in July 2012 (letter south-west/2012/1-745879211) and carried legacy VTU affiliation No. 2593 dated 04-07-2012 for engineering programmes. It is ISO 9001:2015 certified by Bureau Veritas. The IRS-administered Comprehensive Inspection Programme (CIP) grade has historically fluctuated between A1 Outstanding and A2 — candidates should verify the current grade on the DG Shipping E-Governance portal. MMCT is not NAAC accredited, not NIRF ranked and not autonomous, which is typical for specialised DG Shipping maritime training institutes that sit outside the university grading ecosystem.

MMCT has not published an official 2025-26 fee schedule on its website, and all figures below come from third-party aggregators and should be treated as directional only — always confirm current fees directly with the admissions office before payment. Graduate Marine Engineering (GME, 1 year) is approximately Rs 2.85 lakh to Rs 3.5-4 lakh total. Electro-Technical Officer (ETO, 4 months) and General Purpose Rating (GP Rating, 6 months) fees are not publicly quoted. Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) is priced in the pre-sea cadet range. Hostel stay is mandatory and extra. Legacy BE Marine Engineering (no longer on current portal) was historically around Rs 2 lakh per year, making the four-year total approximately Rs 3.86 lakh.

MMCT does not publish an official placement report, so exact highest/average package and placement-rate numbers are not primary-source verified. The institute's exclusive admission and sponsorship partnership with MSC Crewing Services Private Limited — inaugurated at MMCT 2.0 on 13 November 2025 — routes selected cadets directly into the MSC fleet, one of the world's largest container-shipping operators. Additional recruiter access includes Synergy Maritime, BW Maritime, Anglo-Eastern Ship Management, Fleet Management, V.Ships, Seateam Management, D'Amico Ship Ishima, Dockendale, Elite Mariners and Ocean Sparkle. Alumni body exceeds 2,400 seafarers across global fleets, with USD-denominated salaries typical for merchant-navy officer tracks.

The ten-acre coastal campus houses a distinctive Ship-in-Campus — a shore-based vessel replica with fully operational marine machinery used for hands-on engineering drills — plus a Full Mission Bridge Simulator, Engine Room Simulator, LNG bunkering simulator and steering simulator, reflecting the STCW 2010 Manila Amendment training envelope. Additional facilities include specialised marine workshops, firefighting and sea-survival mock-ups, smart classrooms, a central library with maritime references, a 500-seat auditorium, an amphitheatre, swimming pool, gymnasium and upgraded mandatory residential hostels for all pre-sea cadets. Built-up area is approximately 50,000 square feet and the Mangaluru major-port location provides access to ship visits.
