FAQ
CEC Bantwal FAQs
Who runs Canara Engineering College (CEC), Benjanapadavu?
CEC is run by the Canara High School Association (CHSA), Mangalore — a 134-year-old educational society founded in 1891 by Sri Ammembal Subba Rao Pai, who also founded Canara Bank in 1906. CEC was started in 2001 as the CHSA "New Millennium Project". CHSA's registered office is at ASRP Road, Kodialbail, Mangalore 575003, while the CEC campus is at Sudheendra Nagar, Benjanapadavu, Bantwal Taluk 574219.
Is CEC autonomous and what are its accreditations?
Yes. In 2025 UGC granted CEC autonomous status valid through 2034-35 under VTU Belagavi. It is also ISO 21001:2018 and ISO 9001:2015 certified, UGC 2(f) recognized, and operates under AICTE Permanent ID 1-3579484.
What is CEC's KCET code and what admission streams does it accept?
CEC's KCET / KEA institution code is E123. The college accepts admissions through four streams: KCET (government quota via KEA), COMEDK UGET (private consortium), KRLMPCA UGCET (Konkani Linguistic Minority quota — CEC is a Konkani Minority Institution), and JEE Main scores. The indicative seat split is roughly 40% KCET, 30% KRLMPCA, and 30% Management/NRI.
How many UG B.E. seats does CEC offer in 2025-26 and in which branches?
Per the AICTE Extension of Approval dated 5 April 2025, CEC's 2025-26 sanctioned UG intake is 750 seats across seven B.E. branches: Computer Science & Engineering (180), Information Science & Engineering (180), AI & Machine Learning (120), Electronics & Communication Engineering (120), Computer Science & Business Systems (60), Computer Science & Design (60), and Mechanical Engineering (30).
Does CEC offer any PG programmes (M.Tech, MBA, MCA) in 2025-26?
No. The AICTE Extension of Approval for 2025-26 lists only the seven UG B.E. programmes; no M.Tech, MBA or MCA programme is approved for the 2025-26 academic year. Aggregator sites that continue to list M.Tech CSE at CEC reflect stale data — candidates seeking postgraduate engineering / management programmes should consider neighbouring institutions such as NMAMIT Nitte, NITK Surathkal, SJEC Vamanjoor or MIT Manipal.
What are CEC's 2024-25 placement outcomes and top recruiters?
CEC reported an 82.52% placement rate for the 2024-25 batch with 278 students placed from approximately 462 final-year candidates, a headline highest package of ₹23.68 LPA, and a cumulative four-year placement rate of 85.19%. Top recruiters included Infosys, TCS, Cognizant, Tech Mahindra, IBM, Bosch, Oracle Cerner, Net App, SAP, Accenture, Wipro, Capgemini, Sasken, Niveus Solutions, Google Operations Center, and 440+ others across IT, core engineering and product firms.
What infrastructure and facilities does the 26-acre Benjanapadavu campus offer?
The 26-acre rural campus houses a 43,000+ volume library on 1,300 sq.m with 300-reader capacity, separate boys and girls hostels accommodating ~35% of ~1,900 students, over 50 departmental laboratories, a 2,000+ seat Dr. P. Dayananda Pai & P. Sathish Pai Auditorium, a TiE-backed Centre of Excellence, a High-Computing GPU Lab, the CIF Incubation Centre, an Entrepreneurship Cell, 651+ computing workstations with 600 Mbps internet, a Microsoft 365 campus subscription, an on-campus Canara Bank branch plus 24-hr ATM, and sports facilities for basketball, badminton, football and cricket.
Who is the Principal and governance head of CEC in 2025-26?
As of 2025-26, Dr. Ganesh V. Bhat serves as Principal of CEC (with Dr. Nagesh H R cited as a recent past principal in some 2024 material). The parent trust CHSA is headed by President Sri. D. Vasudeva Kamath, with Vice-President Sri. K. Suresh Kamath, Honorary Secretary Sri. M. Ranganath Bhat, Treasurer Sri. M. Vaman Kamath, Alternate Treasurer Sri. M. Jagannath Kamath, and Joint Secretary Sri. T. Gopalkrishna Shenoy. CHSA does not use a "Chairman" designation — the highest executive officer is the President.
