FAQ
BEC FAQs
When was Basaveshwar Engineering College Bagalkote established and by whom?
Basaveshwar Engineering College (BEC) was established in 1963 by the Shri Basaveshwar Veerashaiva Vidyavardhaka Sangha (BVVS), a well-established educational trust headquartered in Bagalkote that operates more than 150 institutions from kindergarten to doctoral research. BEC opened with three pioneering engineering branches — Civil, Mechanical and Electrical — and was brought under the Karnataka grant-in-aid code in 1968, making it one of north Karnataka's earliest and most respected engineering institutions.
Is BEC Bagalkote autonomous and what does that mean for students?
Yes, BEC Bagalkote received academic autonomous status jointly from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in 2007, effective from AY 2007-08. As an autonomous college, BEC designs its own curriculum with frequent industry-responsive revisions, conducts its own examinations and evaluations, and implements academic innovations without waiting on the annual VTU cycle — while students still receive the degree from VTU Belagavi.
What is the NAAC and NBA accreditation status of BEC Bagalkote?
On the NBA front, BEC carries Tier-I accreditation covering one hundred percent of eligible UG programmes — Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics, Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, Industrial & Production, Information Science, Instrumentation, Automobile and Biotechnology Engineering — along with 50 percent of eligible PG programmes.
What are the KCET and COMEDK counselling codes for BEC Bagalkote?
For KEA KCET counselling, BEC uses code E031 for its 420 aided seats (Civil 90, Mechanical 120, CSE 60, ECE 60, EEE 60, IPE 30) and code E049 for its 570 unaided seats (Biotechnology 30, Civil 30, CSE 120, ECE 60, ISE 180, AIML 60, ECS 60, Automobile 30). For COMEDK UGET counselling, BEC uses code E024 covering the unaided stream. M.Tech admissions through Karnataka PGCET use college code T810.
What is the total UG intake at BEC Bagalkote for 2025-26?
For AY 2025-26, BEC Bagalkote offers a total of 990 sanctioned UG B.E. seats across 11 engineering branches. The aided stream (under KEA code E031) carries 420 seats across six classical branches — Civil (90), Mechanical (120), CSE (60), ECE (60), EEE (60) and Industrial & Production Engineering (30). The unaided stream (KEA E049 / COMEDK E024) carries 570 seats across Biotechnology, Civil, CSE, ECE, ISE (180 seats), AIML, ECS and Automobile Engineering.
What postgraduate programmes does BEC Bagalkote offer?
BEC offers four actively running M.Tech specialisations (18 seats each, PGCET code T810) — Structural Engineering, Geo-Technical Engineering and Environmental Engineering under Civil, plus Machine Design under Mechanical. The college also offers an AICTE-approved MBA (60 seats; 30 government quota via KEA-PGCET plus 30 management quota) and MCA (60 sanctioned seats, PGCET route). Ten VTU-recognised Research & Development centres host 160+ Ph.D. scholars across engineering and sciences.
