Basaveshwar Engineering College (BEC) was established in 1963 by the Shri Basaveshwar Veerashaiva Vidyavardhaka Sangha (BVVS), a well-established educational trust headquartered in Bagalkote that operates more than 150 institutions from kindergarten to doctoral research. BEC opened with three pioneering engineering branches — Civil, Mechanical and Electrical — and was brought under the Karnataka grant-in-aid code in 1968, making it one of north Karnataka's earliest and most respected engineering institutions.
