Appa Institute of Engineering and Technology (AIET), Kalaburagi, was established in 2002 as the engineering wing of the Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardhak Sangha (SVVS). The parent SVVS was founded in 1903 by Late Poojya Doddappa Appa, the 7th Peethadhipati of Sharnbasveshwar Maha Dasoha Samsthan, Gulbarga. SVVS has grown into a 40-institution network with close to 20,000 students across the Kalyana-Karnataka (formerly Hyderabad-Karnataka) region.

AIET operates from the Sharnbasaveshwar College Campus at Vidya Nagar, Kalaburagi (Gulbarga), Karnataka, PIN 585103. The Vidya Nagar cluster also houses the SVVS commerce, arts, science and management colleges, as well as Sharnbasva University (established 2017), giving AIET students access to a broad, shared academic ecosystem in the heart of Kalaburagi.

AIET is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. All B.E. and M.Tech degrees are awarded under the VTU scheme of examinations, giving AIET qualifications the same academic currency as other VTU-affiliated engineering colleges across the state of Karnataka.

At the undergraduate level, AIET offers five four-year B.E. programmes under the VTU scheme: Computer Science and Engineering, Information Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. At the postgraduate level, the college offers two PG streams (including M.Tech specialisations), and it supports five VTU-recognised research streams that enable Ph.D. scholars to pursue doctoral research.

Admission to B.E. programmes is through KCET (Karnataka CET) conducted by KEA, COMEDK UGET, JEE (Main) or the management quota. Candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics and one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science or Electronics, securing at least 45 percent aggregate in the relevant subjects (40 percent for SC, ST and OBC candidates from Karnataka). Seats are allotted through KEA, COMEDK/KPCF and the SVVS-administered management counselling.

Yes. Three-year diploma holders in engineering can join the second year of B.E. at AIET through the Karnataka Diploma CET (DCET) conducted by KEA. Lateral-entry seats are allotted through centralised DCET counselling under VTU and AICTE rules, and are available across the five B.E. disciplines subject to departmental capacity and DCET rank cut-offs announced in the counselling schedule.

M.Tech and other postgraduate admissions are based on Karnataka PGCET or a valid GATE score, followed by centralised state counselling. For research admissions, the five VTU-recognised research streams at AIET follow VTU's Ph.D. regulations, with eligibility, entrance and interview requirements set by the university's research wing; candidates should consult the VTU research notification each cycle.

Both institutions trace their naming back to the same 7th Peethadhipati tradition of the Sharnbasveshwar Maha Dasoha Samsthan, but they are distinct colleges. PDA College of Engineering is run by an autonomous engineering-college society and is older, while AIET was established in 2002 under the Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardhak Sangha (SVVS), which also runs Sharnbasva University and around 40 other institutions in the region.
