When was SECAB IET Vijayapura established and who runs it?
SECAB Institute of Engineering and Technology (SIET), Vijayapura, was established in 2002 by the Socio Economic Cultural Association of Bijapur (SECAB). The parent SECAB trust was founded in 1969 by Shri Shamsuddin Punekar to provide education to the educationally backward Muslim community of Bijapur district and North Karnataka. SECAB today runs 26 institutions with more than 10,000 students, and SIET is its engineering flagship.
Where is SECAB IET located and how large is the campus?
The college operates from a 10.5-acre dedicated campus at Nauraspur on Bagalkot Road, Vijayapura 586109, Karnataka — approximately 3 km from the historic city centre of Vijayapura (erstwhile Bijapur), the seat of the Adil Shahi Sultanate and home to the Gol Gumbaz. The campus houses separate academic blocks, laboratories, a central library, hostels for boys and girls and sports facilities.

SIET is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. SIET offers five four-year B.E. programmes under the VTU scheme: Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Information Science and Engineering (ISE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering. These cover the core engineering stack demanded by Karnataka public-sector undertakings, the construction and water-resource sectors, and the IT services industry.
What postgraduate and research programmes are available?
At the postgraduate level, SIET offers eight specialisations across M.Tech and MBA, including both classical engineering streams and management education. Eight departments are recognised as VTU Research Centres, enabling students and faculty to pursue Ph.D. research in computer science, electronics, mechanical, civil and allied disciplines directly from the Vijayapura campus without relocating to Belagavi or Bengaluru.
How can I get admission to the B.E. programmes at SIET?
Admission to B.E. programmes is through KCET (Karnataka CET), COMEDK UGET, JEE (Main), the management quota or the SECAB minority quota. Candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics and one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science or Electronics, with at least 45 percent aggregate (40 percent for SC/ST/OBC from Karnataka). Seats are allotted through KEA, COMEDK/KPCF and the college's own counselling.
Is there a lateral entry option and how are M.Tech and MBA admissions handled?
Yes — three-year diploma holders in engineering can join the second year of B.E. via the Karnataka Diploma CET conducted by KEA. M.Tech admissions are through PGCET or GATE scores, and MBA admissions accept PGCET, KMAT, CAT or MAT scores followed by Karnataka state centralised counselling. All counselling and allotment follows VTU and Government of Karnataka rules.
What does the minority status mean for applicants?
SIET is a recognised Muslim minority institution, so a dedicated quota of seats is reserved for Muslim candidates under the SECAB framework, with fee concessions and priority in the management/minority counselling conducted by SECAB itself. However, admissions under KCET, COMEDK UGET, JEE (Main) and the management quota remain fully open to students of every community, and the campus is culturally inclusive.
