Saveetha University is the popular name for Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS), a private deemed-to-be-university in Chennai built around the Saveetha Medical & Educational Trust. The trust was formed in 1986 by Dr. N.M. Veeraiyan, who started Saveetha Dental College in 1988, scaled up with Saveetha Engineering College (now Saveetha School of Engineering, SSE) in 2001, and secured Deemed-to-be-University status on 18 March 2005 under the UGC Act 1956.

Saveetha runs an extensive on-campus hostel system on its 100-acre Thandalam campus near Chennai. First-year B.Tech students are typically allocated triple-sharing rooms with double and single occupancy from the second year by seniority. Annual hostel and mess fees for 2025-26 broadly fall in the ₹1,30,000-1,80,000 range inclusive of mess. Mess service includes vegetarian and non-vegetarian options across multiple mess centres serving North Indian, South Indian (Tamil cuisine) and Continental rotations.
