National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad is a design college in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, established in 1961. It is affiliated to National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad offers 15 programmes, 8 at undergraduate level and 7 at postgraduate level. These include Animation Film Design (B.Des.), Exhibition Design (B.Des.), Film & Video Communication (B.Des.), Graphic Design (B.Des.) and Ceramic & Glass Design (B.Des.), among others. The stated sanctioned intake across these programmes totals 254 seats. NID Ahmedabad is an Institution of National Importance under the National Institute of Design Act 2014 and is an autonomous design institute; it is not a hospital or university-affiliated college. The 2026-27 B.Des. handbook states 128 Indian-national seats at Ahmedabad, with eight listed specialisations and a mandatory two-semester Design Foundation. Official 2024-25 material identifies Ahmedabad facilities including the Skill Development Lab, Design Vision Centre, Innovation Lab, ceramics/glass, leather/plastics, textile/apparel and computer labs, plus the Knowledge Management Centre with approximately 63,000 books. No campus-specific dated faculty headcount, attendance minimum, patent count, recognised-guide count or funded-project amount was explicitly established in the cited sources. NID Ahmedabad is a statutory Institute of National Importance under the National Institute of Design Act, 2014 and awards its own degrees; it is not affiliated to a separate university. The 2026-27 B.Des handbook treats Gandhinagar and Bengaluru as extension campuses of NID Ahmedabad, while Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Assam are separate NID institutes. Campus-facts figures from the annual report are for 2021-22 and may cover the Ahmedabad/Gandhinagar/Bengaluru system rather than Ahmedabad alone; they are retained only where the source explicitly describes that scope.
