FAQ
KLSVDIT FAQs
When was KLSVDIT Haliyal established and who runs it?
KLS Vishwanathrao Deshpande Rural Institute of Technology (KLSVDIT), Haliyal was established in 2004-05 by the Karnatak Law Society (KLS), Belagavi — a 1939-founded educational charity registered under the Societies Act 1860 and later the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950. The Haliyal campus was opened on the initiative and active support of Shri R. V. Deshpande, former minister, Government of Karnataka, specifically to extend KLS's "Quality Educational Institutions" tradition from Belagavi into the rural Uttara Kannada district.
Who founded the Karnatak Law Society that runs KLSVDIT?
Karnatak Law Society was founded in 1939 in Belagavi by seven eminent lawyers and freedom-struggle leaders of North Karnataka — N. S. Shrikhande, V. A. Naik, V. D. Belvi, B. N. Datar, S. N. Angadi, R. Kotbagi and D. S. Paramaj. The first KLS law college was made possible by the financial backing of Shrimant Raja Lakhamgouda Sardesai of Vantmuri, who executed a Rs 1 lakh Promissory Note in support of the founding members. KLS today runs a family of law, commerce, management, engineering and school institutions.
Where is KLSVDIT located and how big is the campus?
KLSVDIT is located at Udyog Vidya Nagar, Dandeli Road, Haliyal, in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. The campus spreads over approximately 26 acres of green rural land on the Haliyal-Dandeli road corridor, with academic blocks for each B.E. department, laboratories, a central library, a placement cell, hostels for boys and girls, sports and cultural facilities and transport. The location places students within reach of the industrial clusters of Dandeli, Karwar, Belagavi, Hubballi and Dharwad for internships and placements.
Is KLSVDIT affiliated to VTU, and what are its accreditations?
Yes. KLSVDIT is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The institute is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and carries National Board of Accreditation (NBA) accreditation at the B.E. level, with placement data reported through the NIRF ranking framework. Together these credentials make KLSVDIT one of the better-accredited rural engineering colleges in the Belagavi-Karwar belt of North Karnataka.
What B.E. branches and PG programmes does KLSVDIT offer?
At the undergraduate level KLSVDIT offers six B.E. branches: Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. At the postgraduate level it offers M.Tech programmes in Industrial Electronics and in Thermal Power Engineering. Research scholars can register for PhD programmes in four departments under VTU research regulations, giving the college a balanced UG-PG-research profile.
How do I apply for B.E. admission at KLSVDIT Haliyal?
Admission to the B.E. programmes is through three main routes. Karnataka-state candidates apply through the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) conducted by the KEA. All-India and private-quota merit candidates apply through the COMEDK Under Graduate Entrance Test (UGET), on which KLS's Vishwanathrao Deshpande Institute of Technology, Dandeli Road, Haliyal is explicitly listed as a participating college. Lateral entry to the second year is through the Karnataka Diploma CET (DCET). Management and NRI seats are admitted under AICTE and institutional norms.
What is the eligibility for the B.E. programmes at KLSVDIT?
For B.E. admission, candidates must have a 10+2 (PUC-II) pass with Physics and Mathematics compulsory and Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science or Electronics as the third subject. The minimum aggregate required is 45 percent (40 percent for Karnataka reserved categories). For lateral entry to the second year of B.E., candidates must hold a Karnataka state diploma in an allied engineering branch and qualify in the Karnataka DCET. M.Tech admissions follow VTU norms, with GATE scores and Karnataka PGCET rank lists forming the basis for merit-based selection.
How large is the student body and the teaching team at KLSVDIT?
KLSVDIT supports a student strength of roughly 1,700+ across its six B.E. branches, two M.Tech programmes and PhD research streams. The teaching team has more than 100 faculty members, complemented by approximately 150+ non-teaching staff. This ratio gives the college the classroom capacity, laboratory supervision and departmental research bandwidth to run a six-branch engineering programme and M.Tech/PhD work while preserving the personal attention expected from a rural campus in the Uttara Kannada district.
