IIT Tirupati — Fees, Placements & Admission 2026

IIT Tirupati follows the standard IIT fee structure set by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. For the 2026-27 academic session, B.Tech tuition is approximately Rs 2 lakh per year (split into two semester payments), with additional charges for hostel room rent, mess advance, medical fee, examination fee, and gymkhana subscription pushing the total to approximately Rs 2.5-3 lakh per year for general-category students. SC/ST/PwD students receive a 100% tuition fee waiver under MoE guidelines. Students from families with annual income below Rs 1 lakh receive full tuition remission, and families with income between Rs 1-5 lakh receive a two-thirds tuition waiver. Hostel and mess charges at IIT Tirupati follow the IIT-wide cost-recovery model. Combined hostel room rent, mess advance, electricity and water charges, and hostel cultural fee typically total approximately Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 per year. The permanent campus has separate hostels for boys and girls with double-occupancy and triple-occupancy rooms, Wi-Fi, common rooms, and in-house recreation and dining facilities. Mess operations run on a cost-recovery basis with students paying actual food cost, typically Rs 3,000-4,500 per month. A refundable caution deposit is collected at admission. IIT Tirupati offers multiple scholarship streams following the standard IIT framework. SC/ST/PwD students receive a full 100% tuition fee waiver and additionally qualify for MoE Merit-cum-Means (MCM) scholarships. General, OBC, and EWS students from families with annual income under Rs 1 lakh receive a complete tuition waiver, and those with family income Rs 1-5 lakh receive a two-thirds tuition waiver. Merit-cum-Means Scholarship (MCM) is available for academically strong students from economically weaker backgrounds. National Talent Scholarship, Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY, legacy rollover), Inspire-SHE, and institute-administered merit scholarships also apply. PG students are eligible for MHRD / GATE fellowships where applicable.

B.Tech admission at IIT Tirupati is conducted exclusively through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling using JEE Advanced ranks — the single centralised pathway for all 23 IITs. The process has three stages: first, qualify JEE Main (NTA) in the January or April session; second, clear the JEE Main cutoff to become eligible for JEE Advanced (organising IIT announced annually); third, register on josaa.nic.in with the JEE Advanced roll number, submit branch and institute preferences for IIT Tirupati, and participate in the six JoSAA allocation rounds. The Common Seat Allocation System (CSAB) handles vacant seats after JoSAA. Upon seat allocation, candidates report physically at IIT Tirupati with required documents for verification and fee payment.

Eligibility for B.Tech admission at IIT Tirupati follows the standard JEE Advanced / JoSAA framework. Candidates must have passed class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. General, OBC, and EWS candidates need 75% aggregate in class 12 (or rank in the top 20 percentile of their board examination), while SC, ST, and PwD candidates need 65% aggregate (or top 20 percentile). Candidates must qualify JEE Main in the current year, then appear for JEE Advanced, and must feature in the JEE Advanced All India Common Rank List (or category-specific list) to be eligible for JoSAA counselling. Age limits and the maximum number of attempts for JEE Advanced also apply per JAB rules.

IIT Tirupati is an Institute of National Importance established in 2015 and formally added to the Second Schedule of the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 through the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2016, which also included IIT Bhilai, IIT Goa, IIT Jammu, IIT Dharwad, and IIT Palakkad. As an Institute of National Importance, IIT Tirupati enjoys statutory parity with older IITs, reports directly to the Ministry of Education, Government of India, is funded through the consolidated IIT grant, and operates under its own Board of Governors. The President of India serves as the Visitor of all IITs. IIT Tirupati confers its own degrees and is governed by the IIT Act rather than UGC as applied to state or deemed universities.

IIT Tirupati initially operated from a temporary campus inside the Chadalawada Venkata Subbaiah Engineering College (CVSR) at Tirupati, with IIT Madras serving as the mentor institute during the critical set-up phase (2015 onwards). The permanent campus is located at Merlapaka Village, Yerpedu Mandal, Tirupati District, Andhra Pradesh 517619, approximately 35 km from Tirupati city. The permanent campus spans approximately 540 acres of planned academic, residential, and research infrastructure being developed in phases — making it one of the larger second-generation IIT campuses by planned acreage. Major academic blocks, student hostels, faculty residences, and central facilities have been commissioned, and operations have progressively shifted from the CVSR temporary campus to the permanent Yerpedu campus.

IIT Tirupati offers B.Tech programmes through seven academic departments. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering delivers CSE, the Department of Electrical Engineering delivers EE, the Department of Mechanical Engineering delivers ME, the Department of Civil Engineering delivers Civil, the Department of Chemical Engineering delivers Chemical Engineering, the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering delivers EC, and the Department of Physics delivers Engineering Physics. Dual-degree (B.Tech + M.Tech) programmes are available for high-performing students who wish to complete a specialised postgraduate degree within a five-year integrated timeline, covering specialisations in AI, VLSI design, advanced materials, and others linked to the academic strengths of the faculty.
