IIT Ropar runs an extensive on-campus hostel system on its 525-acre Birla Farms campus. First-year B.Tech students typically get double-occupancy rooms with single rooms from the second year by seniority. Annual hostel and mess fees for 2025-26 are heavily subsidised — typically ₹40,000-65,000 per academic year inclusive of mess. Mess service includes vegetarian, non-vegetarian and Jain options across multiple mess centres with student-elected mess secretaries; menus combine North Indian, Punjabi, South Indian and limited Continental rotations.

What is the B.Tech tuition fee at IIT Ropar for 2026-27?
IIT Ropar follows the Ministry of Education (MoE) standard fee structure applicable to all IITs. General, OBC, and EWS category students pay approximately Rs 1.00 lakh per semester (Rs 2.00 lakh per year) as tuition. This is subject to periodic MoE revision. SC, ST, and PwD category students receive a full tuition fee waiver. Students from families with annual income below Rs 1 lakh also receive a full waiver, while those from families earning Rs 1-5 lakh receive a two-thirds waiver under the Government of India fee remission scheme.
What are hostel and mess charges at IIT Ropar?
Hostel accommodation and mess charges at IIT Ropar are billed separately from tuition. Combined hostel rent, electricity, mess advance, establishment charges and caution deposit typically total Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 per year for residential students. The permanent campus at Birla Seed Farms Rupnagar has multiple boys and girls hostels with dining halls, laundry, Wi-Fi, and recreation facilities. Candidates must first qualify JEE Main, appear for JEE Advanced, secure a valid All-India Rank, and then participate in JoSAA seat allocation rounds. Final seat allotment is based on rank, category, gender-neutral/female pool, and branch preference order.

IIT Ropar was established in 2008 as one of the eight new IITs announced by the Government of India and was formally added to the Second Schedule of the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 through the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011.
