Annual hostel and mess fees for 2025-26 are heavily subsidised — typically ₹40,000-65,000 per academic year inclusive of mess. Mess service includes vegetarian, non-vegetarian and Jain options across multiple mess centres with student-elected mess secretaries; menus combine North Indian, South Indian (Kerala-Tamil cuisine) and limited Continental rotations.

Academic operations began in August 2015 from a temporary transit campus at the Ahalia Integrated Campus, Kozhippara, with IIT Madras as the mentor institute. The permanent campus at Kanjikode (Pudussery West), Palakkad is being developed in phases and is now largely operational. IIT Palakkad is funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
