IIIT Bhagalpur — Fees, Placements & Admission 2026

IIIT Bhagalpur charges the IIIT-PPP standard tuition of approximately Rs 90,000 to Rs 1,10,000 per semester (Rs 1,80,000 to Rs 2,20,000 per academic year) for B.Tech programmes in the General, OBC-NCL and EWS categories. This figure is reviewed by the Board of Governors and may be revised by MoE notification before each academic year. SC, ST and PwD candidates receive a full tuition waiver. General/OBC/EWS students with annual family income below Rs 1 lakh receive a full tuition waiver, and those with family income between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh receive a two-thirds tuition waiver under the central IIIT remission scheme.

In addition to tuition, students pay hostel and mess charges of approximately Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 per academic year covering accommodation in on-campus residential blocks, mess dining, electricity, water and maintenance. One-time admission fees including institute deposit, identity card and registration add approximately Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 in the first semester. Medical insurance, student activity fee, examination fee and laboratory-consumables contribute a smaller recurring component. Books, stationery and personal expenses typically add Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 per year. Total first-year cost of attendance for a General-category student usually sits in the Rs 2.8 lakh to Rs 3.3 lakh range.

B.Tech admission at IIIT Bhagalpur is exclusively through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main score and the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling, with any vacant seats filled via Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) special rounds. Candidates must appear for JEE Main (conducted by NTA in two sessions each year), then register for JoSAA counselling and fill in branch and institute preferences. Seats are allocated on the basis of JEE Main All India Rank, branch preference, category (General, OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST, PwD), gender and home-state status. There is no separate institute-level application; JoSAA/CSAB seat acceptance, document verification and fee payment complete the admission process.

Candidates must have passed Class XII (or equivalent) with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or Computer Science. They must have secured a minimum aggregate of 75% in Class XII (65% for SC, ST and PwD) or be placed within the top 20 percentile of their respective Class XII board. Candidates must appear for JEE Main. Age restrictions and number-of-attempt norms set by NTA and JoSAA apply. Indian citizenship is required; NRI/foreign nationals apply through the DASA scheme where applicable. Final admission is subject to JoSAA/CSAB seat allotment and document verification at the institute.

IIIT Bhagalpur is an Institute of National Importance established in 2017 as a Public-Private Partnership IIIT by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the Government of Bihar, and industry partners. It was accorded Institute of National Importance status through the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Public-Private Partnership) Act, 2017 (as amended to cover the newer PPP IIITs). Academic operations began in August 2017 from a temporary campus hosted at the Bhagalpur College of Engineering, with IIT Patna serving as the mentor institute. The permanent campus at Sabour Road, Bhagalpur District, Bihar is being developed in phases. The institute plays a strategic role in strengthening the IT and automation human-resource base of eastern Bihar.

IIIT Bhagalpur's permanent campus is being developed at Sabour Road, Bhagalpur District, Bihar 813210, spanning approximately 55 acres, with academic blocks, laboratories, central library, hostels, faculty residences and sports facilities being commissioned in phases. The institute currently operates from a temporary campus at the Bhagalpur College of Engineering, with access to mature engineering laboratories and library. Bhagalpur, the second-largest city in Bihar, is a historic centre of silk weaving (Bhagalpuri silk) and is well-connected by rail and road to Patna, Kolkata and Delhi, and has air connectivity via the Bhagalpur Airport (under development) and Patna/Durgapur airports within reasonable distance.

IIIT Bhagalpur offers B.Tech programmes in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), and Mechatronics and Automation Engineering — with a total UG intake of approximately 150-180 seats across the three branches. The Mechatronics and Automation Engineering branch is a distinctive offering that blends electronics, mechanical systems and computing to prepare engineers for robotics, industrial automation, smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0 roles. CSE covers programming, algorithms, systems, AI/ML and software engineering; ECE covers electronic circuits, signal processing, communication systems, VLSI and embedded systems. All branches include industry-relevant laboratory work, mini-projects, internships and a major project in the final year.
