National Institute of Technology Patna (NIT Patna) is one of the oldest engineering institutions in India, originally established in 1886 as the Bihar College of Engineering under the Bengal Presidency, making it among the six oldest engineering colleges on the Indian subcontinent. NIT Patna runs an extensive on-campus hostel system on its 50-acre Ashok Rajpath campus. First-year B.Tech students typically get triple-occupancy rooms with double rooms from the second year and single rooms from the third year by seniority. Annual hostel and mess fees for 2025-26 are heavily subsidised — typically ₹35,000-55,000 per academic year inclusive of mess. Mess service includes vegetarian, non-vegetarian and Jain options across hostels; menus combine North Indian, Bihari and South Indian rotations. Wi-Fi, hot-water geysers, gymnasium access, study lounges and CCTV are standard.
