GNDEC Bidar was established in August 1980 under Karnataka Government Order ED 150 TEC 79 by the Prabandhak Committee of Gurudwara Sri Nanak Jhira Saheb, making it one of the oldest engineering colleges in the Kalyana-Karnataka region. The college is currently managed by the Sri Nanak Jhira Saheb Foundation, formally registered in March 1987 by the same Prabandhak Committee. The founder lineage traces to Sardar Joga Singh Ji, son of Sant Sardar Bhishan Singh and president of the Nanak Jhira Trust. The current Chairman is S. Balbir Singh with Reshma Kaur as Vice-Chairperson. Initially affiliated to Gulbarga University, it transitioned to VTU Belagavi from 1998-99 and has been granted autonomous status under VTU effective AY 2026-27.

The KEA KCET college code for GNDEC Bidar is E043, which candidates use during Karnataka CET option entry. The college admits students through five routes: KCET for Karnataka-domicile candidates (the primary route), COMEDK UGET for all-India private quota, Management/NRI Quota filled directly by the institute on merit-cum-interview, Sikh-community Nominee Quota (SNQ) through the Sri Nanak Jhira Saheb Foundation for meritorious Sikh students, and DCET for lateral entry to 2nd-year B.E. by diploma and B.Sc. graduates. Karnataka-domicile residents of Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal or Ballari districts additionally qualify for Article 371J Hyderabad-Karnataka quota benefits.

GNDEC Bidar offers ten B.E. programmes for AY 2025-26: Computer Science and Engineering (180 seats), CSE Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (60), CSE Data Science (60), CSE Cyber Security and IoT (60), standalone AI and ML (60), Information Science and Engineering (60), Electronics and Communication Engineering (120), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (60), Mechanical Engineering (30) and Civil Engineering (30). NBA accreditation currently covers CSE, ECE, EEE and Civil programmes. The college also offers M.Tech specialisations in CSE and Digital Communication and Networking (18-24 seats each), a 60-seat MBA programme (established 2006 with HR, Marketing and Finance streams) and a 60-seat MCA programme.

For AY 2025-26, the fee per year at GNDEC Bidar varies by quota: KCET allotted seats ₹1,13,205 per year; COMEDK UGET seats ₹2,20,000 per year; Management Quota ₹1,80,000 for core branches ME/Civil/EEE, ₹2,20,000 for ECE, and ₹2,50,000 for CSE-specialisations/AIML/ISE; Sikh-community Nominee Quota (SNQ) ₹30,610 per year, making it one of the most affordable merit options. Total four-year B.E. cost ranges from ₹1.22 lakh (SNQ) to ₹10 lakh (top Management Quota). PG fees: M.Tech ₹1.16-1.39 lakh total; MBA/MCA similar range. Hostel, mess and examination fees are additional, and Karnataka bank education loan support is facilitated at counselling stage.

Bidar is one of six Kalyana-Karnataka (Hyderabad-Karnataka) districts covered under Article 371J of the Indian Constitution, alongside Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal and Ballari. Under this provision, 70 percent of seats at GNDEC Bidar and other regional institutions are reserved for candidates holding a valid HK-region eligibility certificate, with an additional 8 percent statewide allocation across Karnataka institutions for HK locals. This translates to preferentially lower cut-offs via KEA KCET counselling and often additional fee concessions. Eligible candidates must produce a Kalyana-Karnataka eligibility certificate issued by the tahsildar of their district during KEA document verification, in addition to standard 10th, 12th, CET rank card and domicile proofs.

GNDEC Bidar's placement cell reports highest packages in the ₹8.5-10 LPA range for FY 2023-24 and FY 2024-25 batches, with the median/average hovering around ₹4.0-4.5 LPA and placement rates of 60-80 percent across eligible branches; CSE, ECE and AIML typically lead with stronger outcomes. More than 150 recruiters visit campus each year, with consistent participation from TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Capgemini, HCL, Cognizant, Accenture, Jio, HP, IBM, Tech Mahindra, Grasim Industries, Mindtree, DXC Technology, Bosch, Qspiders and Kod Nest. The college also supports off-campus pool drives for M.Tech and MCA candidates, and the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) rated AAA for 2024-25 contributes to start-up and entrepreneurship opportunities alongside traditional placements.

GNDEC Bidar operates on a 26-acre campus at Mailoor Road, Bidar-585403, offering separate boys and girls hostels within or near the campus, a central auditorium, and specialised labs and workshops for each engineering department. The central and digital library houses 32,530+ volumes with 84 national and 12 foreign technical journals and VTU Consortium digital access. Additional facilities include optical-fiber Wi-Fi, the CAMU digital campus platform for academic workflow, sports grounds with gymnasium, and a cafeteria. Co-curricular life centres on the annual Technovision tech-cultural fest and the Nostalgia alumni meet (December 2025 edition at GNDEC Bhavan). The MoE Institution's Innovation Council rated AAA for 2024-25 supports start-up activity and innovation events alongside industry MoUs.
