Government Engineering College Karwar — Fees, Placements & Admission 2025

GEC Karwar was established in 2009 by the Government of Karnataka through the Department of Technical Education (DTE). It is a fully state-funded government engineering college affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi and approved by AICTE New Delhi. Principal-in-charge for 2025-26 is Dr. Shanthala B (BE, MTech, PhD).

The main functional campus is on a 14.34-acre plot at Majali village, adjacent to National Highway 66 (Karwar-Goa route), approximately 10 km north of Karwar town in Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka, PIN 581345. The institute also retains an administrative correspondence address at the Government Polytechnic Campus, M.G. Road, Karwar-581301.

GEC Karwar offers four-year Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) programmes in Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Each branch carries an AICTE/KEA-sanctioned intake of 60 seats, for a total sanctioned strength of 240 seats per year.

For the 2025-26 academic year, the KEA general-merit tuition component is approximately Rs 44,200 per year, with total annual outgo including university and miscellaneous charges landing roughly in the Rs 46,000 to Rs 50,000 range. SNQ fees have been revised downwards by the state for 2025-26. SC, ST and Category-1 candidates with valid income certificates pay only nominal out-of-pocket amounts after Karnataka Social Welfare Department scholarship reimbursement.
