Government Engineering College (GEC), Huvina Hadagali was established in 2007 by the Government of Karnataka through the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE). It was set up with the specific public-service objective of providing affordable quality engineering education to students from the rural and educationally backward Kalyana-Karnataka region and is the only Government Engineering College in the Ballari and Vijayanagara districts.

GEC Huvina Hadagali is located on Haveri Road, Huvina Hadagali 583219, Vijayanagara District (erstwhile Ballari District), Karnataka. The campus sits on a small hill locally called Huli Gudda and spreads across about 25 acres, around 7 kilometres from the Huvina Hadagali town centre on the Haveri-Ranebennur Road.

The college is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi for all its B.E. programmes and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. It operates under the administrative control of the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Government of Karnataka.

GEC Huvina Hadagali offers four-year Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) programmes in four core branches: Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering. Each branch has a sanctioned intake of 60 students, giving the institution a total of 240 B.E. seats per academic year.

As a Government Engineering College under the Karnataka fee-fixation framework, GEC Huvina Hadagali charges some of the lowest tuition and university fees among Karnataka engineering colleges. Students from SC, ST, OBC, minority and economically weaker-section backgrounds also access Government of Karnataka fee-reimbursement, post-matric scholarships, Vidyasiri and hostel-support schemes, often bringing the effective cost of the four-year B.E. to near-zero.

The 25-acre Huli Gudda hillside campus houses departmental laboratories for each engineering stream, a central library with print and digital resources, a computer centre, Wi-Fi-enabled academic blocks, classrooms with modern teaching aids, and a seminar hall. Residential facilities include separate boys and girls hostels with mess, a canteen, playgrounds and sports courts, making it a full-featured government engineering campus for the Ballari-Vijayanagara region.

The Training and Placement Cell runs pre-placement training, soft-skills workshops, aptitude coaching, mock interviews and industry-interaction events and coordinates campus recruitment drives. Past recruiters visiting or hiring from the college have included Accenture, Informatica, Infogain, Jaro Education, Optimus, Nucleus Software, Tech Mahindra, Global Logic, Mobiloitte, Genpact and JBM among other IT-services and core-engineering firms.
