GECW was established in 2011 by the Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardhak Sangha (SVVS), Kalaburagi — a legacy educational trust founded in 1903 by Late Poojya Doddappa Appa, the 7th Peethadhipati of the Sharnbasveshwar Maha Dasoha Samsthan. The SVVS runs over forty LKG-to-PG institutions in the Kalyana-Karnataka region, including GECW, AIET and Sharnbasva University.
Is GECW Kalaburagi exclusively for women students?
Yes. GECW is a women-only engineering college — every B.E., M.Tech and MBA seat and every campus facility (hostel, library, laboratories, transport) is reserved exclusively for women candidates. It is one of the few dedicated women's engineering colleges in North Karnataka.

Lateral entry is via Karnataka DCET.
