Thimmaiah Institute of Technology (DrTTIT) is the current name of the college that was originally founded in 1986 as Golden Valley Institute of Technology (GVIT) under the Golden Valley Educational Trust (GVET). The institute was renamed in honour of its founder, Late Dr. T. Thimmaiah, Ph.D. (London), IAS (Retd).
