BKEC charges approximately Rs 80,000-1,00,000 per year for KCET (state-quota) seats and approximately Rs 1,50,000-2,00,000 per year for COMEDK (management-quota) seats, as per the Government of Karnataka fee fixation notification for VTU-affiliated private engineering colleges. Eligible candidates can avail Government of Karnataka post-matric scholarships for SC/ST/OBC and economically weaker section students, the Vidyasiri scholarship for non-SC/ST candidates from low-income families, the Karnataka State Brahmin Development Board scholarships, central government scholarships such as the AICTE Pragati and Saksham schemes for women and PwD candidates, and merit scholarships announced by the institute and HSPS Trust from time to time. BKEC was established in 1999 by the Hyderabad-Karnataka Shikshan Prasara Samiti (HSPS Trust) in the historic temple-town of Basavakalyana, Bidar district, Karnataka. The institute is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. It serves the under-served Kalyana-Karnataka region under Article 371-J of the Constitution of India.

BKEC is located at Basavakalyana, Bidar district, Karnataka 585327, in the Hyderabad-Karnataka (now Kalyana-Karnataka) region of North Karnataka. The compact 15-acre campus has academic blocks, a central library, computing and engineering laboratories, hostel blocks for boys and girls, faculty residences and sports infrastructure. Basavakalyana is a historic temple-town associated with the 12th-century social reformer Basavanna and lies along the Bidar-Hyderabad highway corridor.

BKEC offers Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) programmes in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Civil Engineering. The aggregate sanctioned UG intake is approximately 300 seats per year across these five branches. The B.E. curriculum follows the VTU eight-semester scheme with mandatory laboratory courses, mini-projects and a final-year capstone project.
