Where the seats actually were
Inflow per branch — the single chart that explains both years. In 2024 the moves spread across twelve departments; in 2025 they collapsed into ECE, ETE and EEE, and the entire CS family took five.

What CGPA actually got in
The band runs from the lowest to the highest CGPA observed among successful applicants; the marker is the mean. Across both years, every single successful student had zero backlogs.

That last point is the cleanest warning on this page for an applicant with a backlog. The regulation can place an eligible backlog student on the list — below every all-clear student — and in both observed years the process ended before any backlog applicant received a move.
But do not over-read the top end either: a 9.00+ CGPA was no guarantee. CSE core accepted nobody in the 2025 record. Vacancy and preference order decide what a strong CGPA can reach.
04 · THE EXPLANATION
Why CSE took nobody in 2025
It was not a higher bar. It was intake restructuring meeting the vacancy formula.
The 2025 record shows zero students moving into CSE core. Under VTU's formula, that means no clear CSE vacancy was available to operate — not that some CGPA line was announced.
RVCE was simultaneously restructuring its computing intake: the official 2025 mandatory disclosure records the programme/intake changes used here. ISE moved to zero intake with closure applied for, EIE was absent from the intake list, CSE rose from 285 to 360 seats, and AI & ML from 120 to 180.
A closed first-year intake creates no third-semester cohort two semesters later — but it does not automatically create a CSE seat either. CSE still needs its own clear vacancy after Reg and Rep are counted. The 2025 pattern — five moves inside the CS family, 29 into ECE/ETE/EEE — is what that arithmetic produced.

Per-branch applicant and first-preference counts are intentionally omitted — the available extraction of those failed its own checksum and remains unverified.
06 · THE RVCE OVERLAY
RVCE ran its own timeline
About a month behind VTU, with an offline counselling round the university regulation does not contain — something an autonomous college can add. Highlighted cells are where RVCE diverged.
The ₹9,000 RVCE fee stage was ₹900 above VTU's ₹600 + ₹7,500 standard total. What the difference covered was not published anywhere.
RVCE's public higher-semester circular index does not expose its branch-change notices — they go out through the internal SAP portal. That is exactly why this process is hard to follow from the college website alone: watch both the VTU deadline and RVCE's internal communication.
If the pattern holds, RVCE's internal process — counselling, fee stage, final list — runs into November, a month after VTU's schedule. The university deadline still governs your application.
07 · TUITION AFTER A MOVE
The fee treatment depends on your admission route
Government-route fee schedules are category-based; RVCE's management fee circular is branch-wise. The missing piece is the one a branch-change student needs most: RVCE does not publish a re-billing rule after a successful move.
The current official RVCE management-quota circular demonstrates that management tuition is branch-wise. It does not explain what happens when an already-enrolled student changes branch.
Ask RVCE accounts for written treatment before accepting a move. Until RVCE publishes a rule, any exact re-billing claim would be an estimate.
08 · HOW TO USE THIS
What an RVCE applicant should actually do
- Start with eligibility, not a branch target. Confirm first-year results and the current annual notice — every observed successful student was all-clear.
- Ask the academic section for the vacancy statement. Last year's inflow cannot substitute for this year's Reg, Rep and intake calculation.
- Build an order you would genuinely accept. The change cannot be reversed. Include ECE, ETE, EEE or a core branch only if you want that curriculum.
- Watch both deadlines — VTU's application window and RVCE's internal communication.
- Get fee treatment in writing if your admission category has branch-wise tuition.
- Stay in your current branch's classes until VTU announces the final list.
The conversion rates look stable — 40.3% then 41.3% — but they are descriptions of two completed lists, not individual probabilities. Preferences, vacancies and competing applicants are recalculated from scratch every year.
