The Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) is administered by AICTE for residents of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh pursuing professional, technical, and general degree courses outside their domicile state. The scheme covers tuition fees up to Rs. 1.25 lakh per year for professional and technical courses (engineering, medicine, etc.), with an additional maintenance allowance of approximately Rs. 1 lakh per year. Selection is centralized through AICTE counselling each year, and seats are pre-allocated to participating institutions across India.
Eligible candidates must hold a domicile certificate from J&K UT or Ladakh UT, have passed Class 12 from a J&K/Ladakh board (or CBSE within J&K/Ladakh), and meet the family income ceiling specified by AICTE annually. Application is online through the official PMSSS portal, typically opening from May to August each admission cycle.
