Vidyasiri is a Karnataka state government scholarship and hostel scheme for Backward Classes (Category 1, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B) students, administered by the Karnataka Backward Classes Welfare Department. The scheme has two components — a tuition fee scholarship and the Bhagyalaxmi-Vidyasiri hostel scheme that provides free or subsidized hostel accommodation in BCM-run hostels across Karnataka.
For engineering UG students enrolled in Karnataka government, government-aided, or private colleges (admitted through KCET/COMEDK government quota seats), Vidyasiri can cover the institutional tuition fee subject to government-fixed ceilings and KEA-determined seat fees. The hostel component provides accommodation, mess, and basic study materials at no or nominal cost — particularly valuable for students from rural or low-income families pursuing engineering in cities like Bangalore, Mysuru, or Hubli.
Apply through the Karnataka SSP portal (https://ssp.postmatric.karnataka.gov.in/) with caste certificate (Karnataka), domicile, family income certificate (typically ≤ Rs. 1.5 lakh per annum), fee receipts, and college admission proof.
