All three names refer to the same institution at different points in its history. Kalasalingam College of Engineering was established in 1984 by Dr. T. In 2006, the Ministry of Human Resource Development and UGC conferred Deemed-to-be University status under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, and the institution was renamed Kalasalingam University. Subsequently, it was repositioned as Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education (KARE) to reflect its research-university identity. The legal entity, main campus at Anand Nagar Krishnankoil, faculty, and academic programmes are continuous — only the brand and university-format has evolved.
