To be eligible for B.Tech admission at KARE Krishnankoil, candidates must have passed class 12 (or equivalent 10+2) from a recognised board with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or Computer Science as the fourth subject, with a minimum aggregate of 50 per cent (45 per cent for SC, ST, OBC reserved categories). A valid KEE, JEE Main, or Tamil Nadu state counselling rank is required for the respective admission channel. Minimum age is 17 years as on 31 December 2026. Lateral entry to second year B.Tech is open to diploma holders in engineering with at least 50 per cent aggregate and/or a valid lateral entry test score as per KARE's published rules.

All three names refer to the same institution at different points in its history. Kalasalingam College of Engineering was established in 1984 by Dr. T. Kalasalingam under the Kalasalingam Trust and operated as a college affiliated to Anna University and its predecessors. In 2006, the Ministry of Human Resource Development and UGC conferred Deemed-to-be University status under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, and the institution was renamed Kalasalingam University. Subsequently, it was repositioned as Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education (KARE) to reflect its research-university identity. The legal entity, main campus at Anand Nagar Krishnankoil, faculty, and academic programmes are continuous — only the brand and university-format has evolved.

KARE Krishnankoil offers B.Tech programmes across a comprehensive range of engineering branches.
