Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur is an autonomous Institute of National Importance established in 2008 as one of the eight new IITs announced by the Government of India and subsequently added to the Second Schedule of the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 through the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011. IIT Jodhpur began academic operations in July 2008 from a temporary transit campus at the MBM Engineering College (now MBM University), Jodhpur, with IIT Kanpur serving as the mentor institute during the set-up phase.
