IIT Bombay runs an extensive on-campus hostel system on its 550-acre Powai campus — 18 hostels (Hostels 1-18) housing students by gender and academic year. First-year B.Tech students typically get triple or double-occupancy rooms with single rooms from the second year by seniority. Annual hostel and mess fees for 2025-26 are heavily subsidised — typically ₹40,000-65,000 per academic year inclusive of mess. Mess service includes vegetarian, non-vegetarian and Jain options across hostel messes; many hostels have student-elected mess secretaries running customised menus.

IIT Bombay runs comprehensive financial aid. SC/ST students receive full tuition waivers plus Central Government Post-matric Scholarship covering hostel and mess. Students from families with annual income below ₹1 lakh receive 100% tuition remission; those between ₹1-5 lakh receive 67% remission. Defence wards qualify for PM Scholarship Scheme. Merit-cum-Means scholarship covers ₹1,000 per month plus tuition for top 25% of low-income students. AICTE Pragati for girl students and AICTE Saksham for differently-abled students are accepted.
