IISc B.S. (Research) admits students through three pathways: JEE Advanced (typical entry rank under 1,000), KVPY/INSPIRE scholarship holders, and direct admission for top NEET rankers (for biology-track B.S.) — KCET and COMEDK are NOT used. The application opens in March-April annually after JEE Advanced and KVPY/INSPIRE results, with a centralised admission portal at iisc.ac.in/admissions. Applicants must carry: 10th and 12th marksheets, JEE Advanced score card / KVPY/INSPIRE certificate, school transfer certificate, conduct certificate, Aadhaar, six passport photos and a written statement of academic interests. The B.S. programme is highly research-oriented with extensive lab rotations, summer research internships from year 2 and a mandatory year-long undergraduate thesis. Fees for the B.S. programme are heavily subsidised — typically ₹35,000-55,000 per year in tuition, with additional research grants and INSPIRE/KVPY fellowships covering most living costs.
