IIIT Manipur — Fees, Placements & Admission 2026

IIIT Manipur charges the IIIT-PPP standard tuition of approximately Rs 90,000 to Rs 1,10,000 per semester (Rs 1,80,000 to Rs 2,20,000 per academic year) for B.Tech programmes in the General, OBC-NCL and EWS categories. This figure is reviewed by the Board of Governors and may be revised by MoE notification before each academic year. SC, ST and PwD candidates receive a full tuition waiver. General/OBC/EWS students with annual family income below Rs 1 lakh receive a full tuition waiver, and those with family income between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh receive a two-thirds tuition waiver under the central IIIT remission scheme.

In addition to tuition, students pay hostel and mess charges of approximately Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 per academic year covering accommodation in on-campus residential blocks, mess dining, electricity, water and maintenance. One-time admission fees including institute deposit, identity card and registration add approximately Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 in the first semester. Medical insurance, student activity fee, examination fee and laboratory-consumables contribute a smaller recurring component. Books, stationery and personal expenses typically add Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 per year. Total first-year cost of attendance for a General-category student usually sits in the Rs 2.8 lakh to Rs 3.3 lakh range.

IIIT Manipur offers the full IIIT fee-remission scheme: SC, ST and PwD candidates receive a full tuition waiver; General, OBC-NCL and EWS students with family income below Rs 1 lakh receive a full tuition waiver; and those with family income between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 5 lakh receive a two-thirds tuition waiver. Merit-cum-Means scholarships, Institute Merit scholarships, and external scholarships from the National Scholarship Portal, Manipur state government and CSR partners further support eligible students. North-East specific scholarships including the Post-Matric Scholarship for ST students and the Ishan Uday scholarship are also available. PhD scholars receive MoE-standard monthly fellowships; M.Tech students sponsored via GATE receive MHRD assistantships.

B.Tech admission at IIIT Manipur is exclusively through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main score and the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling, with any vacant seats filled via Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) special rounds. Candidates must appear for JEE Main (conducted by NTA in two sessions each year), then register for JoSAA counselling and fill in branch and institute preferences. Seats are allocated on the basis of JEE Main All India Rank, branch preference, category (General, OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST, PwD), gender and home-state status. There is no separate institute-level application; JoSAA/CSAB seat acceptance, document verification and fee payment complete the admission process.

Candidates must have passed Class XII (or equivalent) with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or Computer Science. They must have secured a minimum aggregate of 75% in Class XII (65% for SC, ST and PwD) or be placed within the top 20 percentile of their respective Class XII board. Candidates must appear for JEE Main. Age restrictions and number-of-attempt norms set by NTA and JoSAA apply. Indian citizenship is required; NRI/foreign nationals apply through the DASA scheme where applicable. Final admission is subject to JoSAA/CSAB seat allotment and document verification at the institute.

IIIT Manipur is an Institute of National Importance established in 2015 as a Public-Private Partnership IIIT by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the Government of Manipur, and industry partners. It was accorded Institute of National Importance status through the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Public-Private Partnership) Act, 2017. Academic operations began in August 2015 from a temporary campus hosted at NIT Manipur, Langol, which serves as the mentor institute. The permanent campus at Mantripukhri, Imphal East District, Manipur is being developed in phases. The institute plays a strategic role in strengthening the IT and electronics human-resource base of the North-East region.

IIIT Manipur's permanent campus is at Mantripukhri, Imphal East District, Manipur 795002, spanning approximately 45 acres, with academic blocks, laboratories, central library, hostels, faculty residences and sports facilities being commissioned in phases. The institute currently operates from a temporary campus hosted at NIT Manipur, Langol, approximately 8 km from the heart of Imphal, with access to NIT Manipur's laboratories and library. Imphal is the state capital of Manipur and is well-connected by air (Bir Tikendrajit International Airport), road (NH-2 and NH-102) and has rail connectivity to Jiribam.

IIIT Manipur offers B.Tech programmes in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), with a total UG intake of approximately 120-150 seats across the two branches. The CSE curriculum covers programming, algorithms, computer systems, networks, databases, AI/ML and software engineering, while the ECE curriculum covers electronic circuits, signal processing, communication systems, VLSI design and embedded systems. Both branches include a strong emphasis on industry-relevant laboratory work, mini-projects, internships and a major project in the final year. Future expansion to include specialised verticals such as Cyber Security, Data Science and AI is planned.
