IIT (ISM) Dhanbad alumni include some of India's most senior mining, petroleum, energy and infrastructure leaders. Notable alumni include senior leadership at ONGC, Oil India, Coal India, Hindustan Petroleum, Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil, Reliance Petroleum, NTPC, BHEL, Tata Steel, Vedanta and many global oil-and-gas companies. The institute's heritage as Indian School of Mines (1926) gives it 95+ years of alumni — the deepest mining and petroleum alumni network in India. Many ISM/IIT-Dhanbad alumni serve as senior IES, IRSME, IRSE officers and in state and central government technical positions.
