CBIT Hyderabad maintains a strong research output across IoT, smart cities, AI/ML, biotechnology, structural engineering, sustainable materials and renewable energy. The institute houses the Centre for Excellence in IoT and Cyber-Physical Systems (sponsored by MeitY), the Solar Energy Research Lab, the Telangana State Drone Research Centre (in partnership with TSIIC), the Biomedical Devices Innovation Lab, and the Centre for Sustainable Materials Research. Faculty publish 350-400 SCI/Scopus papers annually with research grants from DST, AICTE, DBT, ISRO, BARC, DRDO, MeitY and TSCOST totaling INR 25-30 crore at any given fiscal year. The institute has filed 150+ patents in IoT, biomedical devices, structural innovations, drone technology and renewable energy, with 22 commercialised through industry partnerships. Active industry-academia partnerships include collaborations with Microsoft Research India, IBM, Cognizant, Tata Consultancy Services, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Cyient, GE Energy, ISRO and DRDO. The institute operates 6 international collaborations (Purdue, NTU Singapore, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IISc Bangalore, Stanford). PhD program admits 100-120 scholars annually with monthly fellowships of INR 31,000-35,000 + HRA.
