NIT Silchar runs an extensive on-campus hostel system on its 625-acre campus in Assam. 12+ hostels house students by gender and academic year. First-year B.Tech students typically get triple-occupancy rooms with double rooms from the second year and single rooms from the third year by seniority. Annual hostel and mess fees for 2025-26 are heavily subsidised — typically ₹35,000-55,000 per academic year inclusive of mess. Mess service includes vegetarian, non-vegetarian and Jain options across hostels with student-elected mess secretaries; menus combine North Indian, Bengali (Assamese cuisine), South Indian and limited Continental rotations. Wi-Fi, hot-water geysers, gymnasium access, study lounges and CCTV are standard. The Assam climate is humid with monsoon rains.
