NIT Mizoram drives focused research across AI/ML, IoT, smart cities, sustainable energy, biotechnology, signal processing, environmental engineering for Northeast region, and structural engineering. The institute houses Centre of Excellence in AI and Robotics, the Centre for Renewable Energy, the IoT and Smart City Lab, and the Centre for Cyber Security. Faculty publish 100-120 SCI/Scopus papers annually with research grants from DST, MeitY, DRDO, ISRO, SERB, North Eastern Council and Mizoram State Council on Science and Technology totaling INR 6-9 crore at any given time. The institute has filed 22+ patents across image processing, NLP, IoT systems and renewable energy. Active industry-academia partnerships include collaborations with Mizoram Power Department, NHPC, BSF, ISRO, DRDO and BSNL Mizoram. PhD intake is 18-22 scholars annually, with monthly fellowship of INR 31,000-35,000 + HRA. The institute operates 3 international student exchange agreements (NUS, KAIST, Tribhuvan Kathmandu).
