IIT Mandi runs an extensive on-campus hostel system on its 538-acre Kamand Valley campus. First-year B.Tech students typically get double-occupancy rooms with single rooms from the second year by seniority. Annual hostel and mess fees for 2025-26 are heavily subsidised — typically ₹40,000-65,000 per academic year inclusive of mess. Mess service includes vegetarian, non-vegetarian and Jain options across multiple mess centres with student-elected mess secretaries; menus combine North Indian, Himachali and limited South Indian and Continental rotations. Wi-Fi, hot-water geysers, gymnasium access, study lounges, common rooms with TV, washing machines and CCTV-monitored entries are standard. The Kamand Valley weather is cold winters (-2 to 5°C December-February) with snow possible at higher elevations; warmer bedding, woollens, gloves and proper winter shoes are essential. The campus's mountainous location creates a unique academic environment but distance from urban centres requires planning for off-campus errands.
