IIT Guwahati runs an extensive on-campus hostel system on its 700-acre campus on the banks of the Brahmaputra. 13 hostels (Brahmaputra, Dihing, Lohit, Disang, Kameng, Subansiri and others — named after rivers of the North-East) house students by gender and academic year. First-year B.Tech students typically get double-occupancy rooms with single rooms from the second year by seniority. Annual hostel and mess fees for 2025-26 are heavily subsidised — typically ₹40,000-65,000 per academic year inclusive of mess.
