IIT (BHU) Varanasi runs a substantial on-campus hostel system on the broader BHU campus (the IIT-BHU campus is part of the 1,300-acre BHU campus). 14 hostels including Vivekananda Bhavan, Ramanujan Bhavan, Aryabhatta Bhavan, Limbdi House and several others house students by gender and academic year. First-year B.Tech students typically get double-occupancy rooms with single rooms from the second year by seniority. Annual hostel and mess fees for 2025-26 are heavily subsidised — typically ₹35,000-55,000 per academic year inclusive of mess. Mess service includes vegetarian and non-vegetarian options with North Indian and South Indian rotations; some hostels are strictly vegetarian reflecting the broader BHU campus ethos. Wi-Fi, hot-water geysers, gymnasium access, study lounges and CCTV-monitored entries are standard. The Varanasi winter is moderate (10-15°C December-February). Bring your own bedding, padlock, bucket and toiletries. The broader BHU campus offers extensive dining options including the BHU Conference Centre and many student-run tea/snack outlets.
