NIT Rourkela ranks #13 in NIRF Engineering 2024. Research spans every major engineering and applied science discipline with particular strengths in Metallurgy, Mining, Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering — uniquely strong programmes leveraging Rourkela's industrial location. The institute hosts the Centre for Advanced Computational Studies, Centre for Excellence in Sustainable Mining, Innovation and Incubation Centre and many discipline-specific centres. The institute files 50+ patents annually with publications in IEEE Transactions, ACM, Springer, Elsevier and ACS venues. Major funding from DST, AICTE, MeitY, DBT, ISRO, DRDO, Ministry of Coal, Ministry of Steel, Ministry of Mines and several international agencies.
