Research spans every major engineering and applied science discipline with particular strengths in Metallurgy, Mining, Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering — uniquely strong programmes leveraging Rourkela's industrial location. The institute hosts the Centre for Advanced Computational Studies, Centre for Excellence in Sustainable Mining, Innovation and Incubation Centre and many discipline-specific centres. The institute files 50+ patents annually with publications in IEEE Transactions, ACM, Springer, Elsevier and ACS venues.
