Nirma University Institute of Technology drives focused research across IoT, smart cities, sustainable energy, biotechnology, materials science, AI/ML, and structural engineering. The institute houses the Centre for Sustainable Built Environment, the Nirma IoT Lab, Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security (in collaboration with NASSCOM), the Centre for Robotics and Automation and the Bio-Sciences Research Centre. Faculty publish 200-250 SCI/Scopus papers annually, with research grants from DST, AICTE, DRDO, BARC, ISRO, GSBTM (Gujarat State Biotech Mission) and various private industry collaborations totaling INR 18-22 crore in any given fiscal year. The institute has filed 75+ patents across IoT systems, biomedical devices, structural innovations and renewable energy, with 12 commercialised through industry partnerships. Industry-academia partnerships include collaborations with TCS Innovation Lab, Adani Group R&D, Reliance Industries, Larsen & Toubro, Cadila Healthcare, Torrent Power, Volkswagen India and Schneider Electric. The university operates 8 international research collaborations (Purdue, University of Texas, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, NTU Singapore). PhD program admits 80-90 scholars annually with monthly fellowship of INR 31,000-35,000 + HRA, sponsored by MHRD, DST, AICTE and university grants.
